Sorry for my delay in sharing the update. Exporting with comments to Word was added in September 2025 and recently the ability to export with track changes to Word was also added. We appreciate your patience and feedback along the way. We couldn't have done it without you!

    Hi Trudi,

Thanks for reaching out. Happy to answer this question for ya.

As noted both here and here exporting a Document to DOCX with comments or track changes are both not currently planned, sadly. I have shared your interest with both, however, and will definitely keep you updated should that status change. We'll continue to take in requests in the meantime, so keep 'em coming!

Let me know what questions you have in the meantime. Thanks again and have a great day!

    Hi Mike,

Please keep us posted on this development.

I am currently having issues with export to pdf and having tracked changes and comments.  When I export, it will only records the last reply on the comment chain.  I need to see the whole conversation for audit purposes.

    Hi Mike,

Any updates on this? We love to have a feature word export with track changes and comments.

    Thanks.

    Hi Roman!

Slight update, at least regarding half of the request. While exporting to DOCX with track changes is still not planned, exporting to DOCX with comments has gained enough steam to move to the future roadmap. There's not a timeline set yet but its a step in the right direction. I'm happy to tag you in on both of these to stay updated. Let me know in the meantime if you have any questions for me. Thanks, and happy Thursday!

    Hi Mike,

+1. This would be very helpful for us as well.  Can you clarify if this feature of exporting to Word with comments would be available in Review documents?  In particular, we just started using the "send for review" function with our auditors but they don't like that they can't export the review doc with the comments to Word. (I think they might just be more comfortable in Word since that's what we were using before adding them to Workiva).

On somewhat related note, it appears the Workiva-exported PDF with comments doesn't lend itself to then converting to Word even with the option of transferring comments is on in Adobe. Understand this might be an Adobe issue, but it seems like the content in the PDF isn't "tagged" in a way that allows it to recognize the comments in Word.  Of course, this won't be an issue if we can export to Word with comments directly from Workiva.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jho!

Thanks for these insights, and that's a very good question. Off hand I do not know, but I will ask our experts and let you know what I hear back ASAP.

As a follow-up, I confirmed that today comments would not be included in the export of the Review. Happy to add that as a suggestion and keep you updated.

For awareness, you can export the Track Changes and Comments to a PDF.  Once exported, you can open that document with Adobe Pro and use the comment functionality to view all comments and replies.  Exporting that PDF to Word keeps the track changes visible but does not export the comments.  If the Word format is required, my workaround is simply to copy/paste the comments from the PDF to the Word version, properly attributed.

A lot of hoops to jump thru, but it can be done!

Having the ability to save a document as docx and retain comments and track changes is critical to what we do.  Blackline does not allow users to save as Docx either.  Seems like there is a gap, at least one of those should allow saving as docx and retain comments and track changes.  We are required to provide documents showing redlines as a word document.  Currently, our work around is to milestone the 2 versions and export them to word, then use word to compare the two.  VERY INEFFICIENT.  It seems like wdesk has the tools to complete this, we just need the advanced option to save documents or blacklines as a docx and retain comments and track changes.  We can't use the save as PDF feature at all for our processes.

    Fantastic news, all!

Our product team will explore the possibility of adding this feature in 2024. It is a dependent on the technical feasibility, but this is a step in the right direction. We'll keep you apprised here as always and are happy to take any new request or feedback along the way. Thanks again for your patience and perseverance. We appreciate you. 😊

Hi, I see this was noted 21 days ago as being explored by product team to potential add for 2024.  Do you know when that decision will be made?  Also, will you please have our account added to the idea ticket?
