WData File Format Support for Multiple Entities
We’re currently updating our WData setup to accommodate files produced by an FCCS DLR and lightly transformed in AWS. These files contain data for multiple entities in a single file, unlike our previous setup where each file represented a single entity from the Workiva Trial Balance in NR.
Could you please confirm:
- Whether WData can accept a single file containing multiple entities?
- If so, what are the recommended best practices for structuring the file and setting up the import into WData tables?
- Are there any limitations or considerations we should be aware of when using queries or transformations within WData for multi-entity files?
We’re also determining which transformations should be handled in AWS versus within Workiva, so any guidance on that would be appreciated.

Hi Sanjana Soni - Thanks for sending this question over! I did some digging and this is what I found:
- Yes, however, need to consider limits with an aggregated file
- File structure should ideally be the same
- See the limits pages linked above. The main thing to consider in this regard is who should and shouldn't have access to the data, if you are utilizing parameters or separate queries appropriately, and size of the files coming in
As for transformations, Any sort of business logic transformations should remain in AWS. Any sort of technical or functional transformations could be done within Workiva.Hope this helps!0Please sign in to leave a comment.
