Next Gen XBRL generation and validation warnings
AnsweredWith Classic, when we generated we would get a set of warnings/errors. Then we also did a separate validation check which checked for different things and gave a separate set of warnings. Is my understanding correct that with Next Gen we do not have to do the second step, instead when we generate xbrl it will combine all of those checks and give us one set of errors?

Hi Michelle!
Thanks for the question. To confirm, the separate validation check you are referring to, is that XBRL Document Check?
If so, next gen was designed with that in mind and those checks should either happen earlier, or as you travel through the filing process. Each Filing will have its own validations based on specific form type, so those will be caught at that point.
For example, all XBRL validations will happen during XBRL Generation itself. When you then create a Filing, pull in the XBRL artifacts and fill out the filing information (specific to the form type, such as 10K, 10Q, 8K, etc.), it will have additional validations based on those selections.
One big difference too to call out between Classic and the new filing experience is that you don't have to create a Filing until you are pretty much ready to file, whereas in Classic you had to create a Project just to Generate XBRL at all.
Does this help answer your question? Let me know if I've missed the mark or you have any questions for me on the above. Thanks as always and the happiest of Thursdays to you. :)
0Yes, I am referring to XBRL Document check under the blue "Validate" drop down in Classic. This does answer my question. Thank you very much! I must say, admittedly I am someone that doesn't like change; however, so far I do like the new XBRL side of Next Gen!
0No worries, Michelle. Your secret is safe with me 😉
0Is there a way to run section validations in Next Gen? I used to do this in classic to make sure each footnote is error free before moving on to the next footnote? Thanks.
0Hi Beth!
You can do this from the XBRL tab, under Generate XBRL menu, like so:
These results pop-up both on the right tab under XBRL Section Generation, and on the left with the XBRL Validation results.
Give me a holler if you have any questions or need anything else. Thanks, and happy tagging!
