Aligning Tables within a Document

Hello and welcome to the Community, Brooke!

Great question. I think I may know what is happening for you.

In order to align or adjust a table in that manner, you'd need to select the table itself. In next gen, the two easiest ways are to either a) click and drag over a table until its highlighted, or b) place your cursor next to the table in the margin and double-click. Once you've got the table selected, you can apply alignments an indents to it. Here's an example:

Is this what you are seeing? Let me know if you are still having trouble, have any questions, or if I've missed the mark entirely. I'll be happy to help. In the meantime, have an excellent day and keep staying awesome!

    Hi Mike,

Yes, this is what I am trying to do but if I do what you are showing above it moves everything in my document not just the table. Is there a way to just move a table?

Hmm... interesting. I tested again with some surrounding text and changing my indent didn't impact the surrounding text. Are you grabbing the indent trianlges or the whole margin when you move it?

Hi Mike, It appears this only works with new tables inserted into Documents. For tables that existed in the files we concerted over to Documents they do not move.

That's a very good catch, Brooke, and thanks for sharing. I'll bring this up to our Product Team to take a look at here and I'll get back with you ASAP.

Hi Mike, just following up on this to see if there is a solution. We are trying to determine the best most effective fix for our 2Q statements. Thanks!

Ok, got some follow-up for you Brooke Steiner.

As our team tested, they found a few interesting things out. First, it seems that embedded next gen tables do not seem to respect the 'first line indent' setting but do respect the 'left indent' setting. We are also seeing the same for transitioned tables (respects left indent, but not first line indent). Are you able to reproduce the same?

Yes, I see that it does not respect the first line indent.

Can we no longer right align a table to the right margins set for text?    Used to be able to double click to get it all lined up and it wouldn't go past the page margins set.  Now i need to fiddle around with the width to TRY and align it, but the rulers for tables and pages don't match.  Its VERY TEDIOUS and wastes alot of time.

    Hi Kelli!

Thanks for sharing. Curious, are you referring to something like this?

In my example I double clicked outside of the margin of the table, which highlighted it. I was then able to right-align it. I will agree, however, that highlighting a table can be somewhat difficult, and I have lots of practice at it.

Let me know if I've completely missed the mark here, or you have questions for me. And thanks to for your feedback. I'm definitely happy to pass this along to our Product Team for consideration. Holler if you need anything else. Cheers!
