Spell Check in Next-Gen Documents
CompletedHi, I can't find the spell check feature in Next-Gen documents. Is this available like it was in Classic? I've looked for posts on this topic, but I haven't found any.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi all!
I'm pleased to announce that Spellcheck is now available in the Workiva platform, for Documents, Spreadsheets and Presentations. Bad spellers of the world, rejoyce ;)
Hi Matthew,
While next gen Documents do check spelling as you type, there isn't a spell check wizard so to speak. That particular function is planned, though its not fully prioritized as of yet so I don't have an anticipated release timeline for you but rest assured it is planned.
Thanks for your feedback and let me know what questions you have for or if you need anything else. All the best and happy Monday!
0Is there a roadmap where I can see expected timeline of this feature and others?
0Hello and welcome to the Community, Blaine! Thanks for contributing.
The good news here is yes, sort of. On this page (https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/sections/360007660112-Transition#360007217731) you'll find some links under Step 1: Plan. These include Available Features, which does have a timeline of what's been released and also when we plan to have it for next gen. Also on this page are some Feature Updates for specific, highly-requested features. There's some additional info there for those.
I can also say that we are actively looking at how we can improve our transparency with regards to our product and release timeline for requests, so your feedback here is quite timely. Let me know what other questions you have and I'll be happy to answer 'em. In the meantime, thanks again and looking forward to chatting with you further in the Community. Cheers!
1Hi Mike - in NextGen, is there a way to clear out the underlined words (that appear to be underlined b/c the system thinks they might be mis-spelled), since there is no spell check process for them to go through? They are somewhat annoying to have in the documents and it would be helpful to clear them out. Appreciate your help!
0Hi Audra!
You should be able to right-click on any highlighted word and choose to add it to your dictionary. This should keep them from showing up for you in future instances. Let me know if that does not work or you have any follow-ups for me. Thanks for the question and chat soon!
0FYI, that registration button takes me to a place to buy a bouquet of whoopsy-daisies.
0Thanks for the heads up Blaine Browning. I'll let our team know to adjust the link.
0I have to say that I am looking forward to having spell check available in NextGen. I realize that it auto checks as you go, but it is reassuring to be able to do a complete spell check in a large document where there are multiple people inserting text.
0Agree! I would like to see a spell check wizard as well. Since there is no share/discard feature, we have on occasion had accidental text being added to the document (when users think they are typing in a another window but the Wdesk document is the live window). Usually we are able catch them real time but having a way to run spell check would be a great assist, as our current process is to very carefully review the blackline for any errant changes and pull the document out and run spell check in Word.
1I agree with the comments above and would like to see a spell check wizard to run at the end of the process before finalizing statements. As we are using this as a reporting tool it is a disappointment that this was not prioritized.
0Continuous spellcheck is turned on, but isn't fully working. It picks up blatant errors, but it thinks "reeporting" and "gotta" as valid spellings/words. Seems to be faulty. As we have 43 documents for statutory so it isn't feasible to export to word just to check spelling.
0Further info that may be helpful is that the spellchecker specifically seems to fail if it's a word that is misspelled directly abutting a link. "Reeporting" gets flagged as an error if it's in a sentence that's all just hard-typed/keyed. Interestingly, "gotta" flags as a spelling error in a comment but not in a Next Gen Doc.
0Also looking forward to having a spell check feature. downloading to Word to do this is extra work.
1Interested in removing certain typo words from our dictionary if possible. Is this a feature?
0Hi Jessica Cho! In order to have errant words removed from your dictionary, you need the assistance of Workiva Customer Support. I've drummed up a ticket for you and will get you connected. In the meantime, I've also logged your request for you to have the ability to edit your own dictionary, which is not planned at this time but we are still taking in new feedback for it. Thanks for chiming in and holler if you have any questions for me. Cheers!
