Hello and welcome to the Community, Kathy!

Great question. The good news is I think I found the answer for you.

To add a footnote in XBRL, you have to first select the chunk of text that will be your footnote. Once you have that selected, click the Attributes button in your XBRL toolbar menu, and from there choose XBRL Footnotes > Create.

Once you have one created, you can now apply to a concept via the XBRL Fact Details panel on the right-hand side under XBRL Footnotes > Manage XBRL Footnotes.

Hopefully that is of some help. Let me know if I've missed the mark or you have any follow-up questions for me. Thanks again for contributing to the Community and have a great rest of your day. Cheers!

I have a footnote that applies to all numbers in a column, so several rows. Is there a way to apply the footnote to multiple facts at once as we did in Classic? It seems the manage XBRL footnotes only works for one cell at a time.

    Hi Michelle!

I confirmed that indeed, you do need to apply them one cell at a time, sadly. Happy to bring this improvement up to the Product Team, however, and see if we can save you some clicks. Thanks as always and happy Wednesday!

Good news, Michelle! A recent release to Workiva now allows the ability to apply XBRL footnotes in bulk. Let me know if you have any questions or issues with this enhancement. Thanks as always and happy tagging!
