Linked File Report / Doc Links (Discrepancy)
AnsweredHi - We are attempting to transition from classic to next gen, in doing so, we are cleaning up the doc links.
An issue we are having is the 'Linked Files Report' shows a link that the 'Doc Links' does not show. So it is impossible to determine where this link is coming from or if it really exists or why there is a discrepancy between the two.
We don't want the linked file to be transitioned. How can we remove it from the 'Linked Files Report', if the link cannot be found in the document?
Would greatly appreciate any guidance!
Thanks

Mike please advise, if possible.
0Hi Ty!
Thanks for reaching out. We definitely want to make sure you get your files transitioned over successfully, and how you'd like them too.
I was chatting offline here with some folks and they recommend possibly trying to run a project level validation to see if it can clear up that errant link. Once that is done, re-run the Linked Files Report to see if that same link shows up again. As a reminder, here's a Help article on running project validation: https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035999671-Document-Project-and-Section-Validations
Give me a holler if you have questions on the above, or need anything else. Happy to help however. Talk to you soon and happy transitioning!
0Just to add to ty's post - and i have run validation on both files. here are the illustrations showing our situation

0Thanks for all the additional info, Nicole. Very helpful.
In chatting offline, I was able to connect with your CSM. They're gonna reach out to see if they can't get this resolved for ya ASAP. I have confidence they'll get you squared away, but if you need anything from me don't hesitate to ask. Thanks much for your contributions and have a great rest of your day!
0I ran the validation on the project. Then i pulled another linked document report and the same line shows up. It isn't clearing the issue by running the validation on the project either.
0Gotcha. Thanks for confirming Nicole Sackedis.
I got some addition input from folks on our Transitions team. While it's difficult to determine what exactly is going on here with the screenshot you shared from the Linked Files Report and Docs Link, here are a couple of things we noticed:
- In the Doc Links for MLIC, it looks like the top " MLIC" has a space in front of it. It could be just how it looks, or do you maybe have two MLIC docs?
- Doc Links for MLIC also shows the four docs included in the Linked Files Reports "Already included in selected files" because those are directly linked to the MLIC doc
- BB Footnotes 2019 Q4 (WB) appears in "Outside Sources" because it is not directly linked to the MLIC doc
Based on that, we recommend running Doc Links on the three Classic docs in the "Already included in selected files" section and remove any links to BB Footnotes 2019 Q4 (WB). Another ting to note is you also have the option to click "Transition" from the Linked Files Report and can uncheck BB Footnotes 2019 Q4 (WB) to exclude it from the transition, if you want.
Again, give me a holler with any questions on the above. Hopefully between this and your CSM we've got things taken care of for ya. Thanks again and happy Friday in the meantime.
0To answer your questions.
1. The file name actually does have a space in it. There isn't 2 files.
2. We already ran Doc Links on all of the files and none of them point to MLIC.
I was under the impression that you couldn't select to remove files from the Transition if it had links to that file and any other file in it. Unfortunately, we still have another set of issues too...I will wait to hear from Menden to see if they can resolve this and the other issue we see is Wdesk.
