How do I view the taxonomy?
AnsweredThe taxonomy package published by ESMA, typically in a .zip file format, is not intended to be read by people directly. That said, modern ESEF reporting software can load the information in those files and provide a user-friendly view of all the available elements—and even allow searching by keyword.
Workiva offers a free version of our Taxonomy Analyzer, a valuable component of our end-to-end financial reporting and compliance solution. This allows people to browse and search concepts in multiple taxonomies.
UPDATE: The Taxonomy Analyzer is now available for ESEF customers.

Hi! How can I compare in Taxonomy Analyzer 2 ESEF taxonomies, e.g. from the year 2022 with 2021 to see differences in list of tags?
0Welcome to the Community, Agnieszka!
The best way to do this would be to open two browser tabs/windows and look at them side-by-side. Let me know if you have any follow-ups or need anything else. Cheers!0Hi Mike, thank you very much for the answer. Unfortunately there are too many records in taxonomy to be checked. Do you know in Workiva Analyzer any report which could automatically compare both taxonomies and sum up the changes only? Thank you for information in advance. Agnieszka
0No worries, Agnieszka. Regarding your follow-up, sadly, Workiva does not have any capabilities for this today.
0Thank you for the information. I hope such functionality will be developed in the future. Summary of changes between 2 taxonomies would fasten the tagging process a lot.
Just last question: is it possible to download taxonomy from taxonomy Analyzer into Excel file? Comparing 2 spreadsheets would be easier than checking taxonomies in 2 browsers.
Thank you for support in advance.
0Hi, how can I change language of tag labels in Taxonomy Analyzer. All settings in word document in Workiva are in English, but the whole ESEF taxonomy in Taxonomy Analyser is in my native language-Polish. Thank you for help in advance. Agnieszka
0Hi Agnieszka!
Regarding your first question--can you download the Taxonomy Analyzer into Excel to compare--sadly, that's not possible. Happy to pass this along as a request, however.
And regarding you most recent question, the answer is sort of yes. The Taxonomy Analyzer will look at your browsers language settings. If you're using Google Chrome, this can be managed at chrome://settings/languages.
Let me know if there are any follow-ups or you have any further questions. Cheers!
0Thank you very much for the support in both cases. Change of the language in Google Chrome settings works and the Taxonomy labels changed into English.
Regards. Agnieszka
0You're very welcome, Agnieszka. Happy Friday!
