Can I create a custom footer in Next Gen?
AnsweredWe need to add a footnote to a page in our document (the footnote is in reference to narrative, not a table). So, we need the footnote to be at the bottom of the page. I wanted to put it in the footer so that it will stay on that page regardless if additional text is added to this page. Is there a way to add custom text to the footer on just this page? I think we could in Classic, but don't see how to do that in Next Gen.

Hi Michelle!
Wanted to let you know that a recent release to the Workiva platform has made Footnotes available in next gen Documents. Thanks as always for your continued patience and feedback. Do let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.
Cheers!
Mike
Hello again Michelle!
I brought up this specific question with our next gen Doc experts to see if they have any suggestions for you.
I'll also add that a text and table footnotes feature (which was a beta setting in Classic) should be available soon in next gen. Its planned to be released next month, so keep your eyes peeled to our What's New topic for new updates there. I've added your request there as well.
We'll be in touch soon, but do let me know if you have any questions for me in the meantime. Cheers!
0Thanks for the update Mike! I just tested it out on one of my documents for where we have a footnote in the narrative. It worked great, so I wanted to try it for my tables too. Is there a way to restart the numbering for the footnotes? For instance, a few pages further I tried the insert footnote function in a table and it automatically assigned the reference number 2; however, I would like it to be 1 since it is a new page/new table. In addition, there may be more than one row in a table that share the same footnote, so in those cases I would want the same number reference assigned to more than one row. Is that possible or is the only option to assign sequential numbers for each footnote through the document?
0No problem, Michelle. Glad to see you are putting footnotes through their paces.
Regarding at this time the ability to restart the numbering is not planned and continuous footnote numbering will be the default and only option. About reusing a footnote, that is something we're looking into for further iterations. Our first pass here was to have parity with the Classic version of Footnotes, but there's definitely more to come with this feature in general. I've shared your feedback here with our Product Team and we'll be in touch with further improvements, for sure.Holler if you have any questions or need anything else. Thanks as always and have a great day!0On a related note, is there a way to only have a footnote on one page within a section? I don't need it on any other page except one so the options for "alternating pages", "different first page" or "different last page" are not working for this.
