NextGen - Import doc for exhibits
I can see how to import a Word file but I don't understand how to make it an exhibit or convert for the filing in NextGen.

Hi Liz!
Happy to help get you squared away here.
The first step in next gen is create the filing, which you can do from the Home screen under the Create menu:
Next, you can add your Source Documents from the Collect step via the Add+ button:
Then, as you progress through the filing, at the Label step you'll able to identify what your source files are, i.e. your primary doc and/or any exhibits. More info about next gen filing can be found here on our Help site: https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035639592-Collect-and-Label-Filing-Documents
Let me know what questions you have and if you need anything else. Thanks and chat with your soon.
0Thanks Mike. There seems to be an issue with the Home Screen. When I try to add that way, it takes me to the Classic Wdesk. I've found a work around by copying and pasting for now.
0Hmm... interesting. When you click the Add+, it should open a pop-up which lists the files found in your Home screen. From here you'd want to select the file(s) you imported as exhibit. In addition, the import Word file would create a classic Document version of the imported file. You would then want to transition that file into a next gen Document version. Does that make sense?
0OH, okay. I thought it would come over differently than the classic. Thanks for letting me now!
0I spoke too soon! You CAN import a Word file directly into next gen, but you need to do so from the document window itself. Once a next gen file is open, there is an Import option, one of which is for DOCX.
Sorry for the confusion there. Hopefully this helps some. Do let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers!
0HI Mike! I am trying to import directly from the document window and it is giving me an invalid document type. I am trying to upload a .docx file as an exhibit. What am I doing wrong?
0Hi Anna!
Thanks for reaching out. Hmm... so far everything you've mentioned pans out. Can you confirm that the file on your machine is a DOCX and not a DOC?
0Hi Mike! Figured it out thanks to Josh at the Help Line. DOCX needs to be all lower case (docx) in the file format when you import. A very simple fix, and all is well now.
0That Josh, he's the best! Good catch and thanks for the follow-up ✅
0Hi Mike, We are in Next gen and trying to find answers to " how to add exhibits to the 10-K". Stumbled upon this post and was so excited but the link above doesn't work. I have the exhibits uploaded into a separate folder but do not know how to convert them into 'exhibits" type. Thanks
0Hi Aruna!
Thanks for the heads up there. I'm guessing that link was to our Classic content, which was recently removed. Here's the updated article: https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035639592-Collect-and-Label-Filing-Documents.
During the filing experience itself, you'd label those documents as Exhibits. You'd first click the Add+ button and grab those files from the folder. Then you'd generate it as an EDGAR file and on the Label step, you'd mark it was an Exhibit, specifically what kind of exhibit.
Does that help get you what you need? Let me know if I've missed the mark or you have any questions for me. Thanks and happy filings!
