Can you duplicate/copy a Document in Nextgen?
CompletedI have an 8-K Document set up in Workiva that I want to duplicate/copy in order to retain the format, to be able to work on another 8-K. Can I do this in Nextgen, and if so, how? Thanks.

Stopped by this post and wanted to give a quick update.
The option to Copy a file is available from Home. This is for all Workiva doc types, including Documents, Presentations and Spreadsheets, as well as Folders (and their contents) too. By default, this is only an option for Workspace Owners, but you can request to have this setting enabled for all members in your workspace. If you'd like this enabled, let us know below, or reach out to your CSM or Customer Support.
Thank you all for you feedback and patience along the way. Give us a holler if you have any questions and have a great rest of your day!
Or is there even a way to copy and paste over from one document to the other whilst retaining all of the formatting? 0Hi Andrew,
Currently, the ability to copy a Next Generation document is not yet available, however, our Product Team is working on adding this feature to our Next Generation products, and I've shared your interest with the team and will keep you posted going forward.
In the meantime, we are more than happy to perform a copy for you internally on the backend. If you reach out to your CSM, they'll be able to perform a copy for you.
If you have any questions for me or need anything else, let me know and I'll be happy to assist. Thanks, and have a super day!0Hi Mike,
Is there any timeline on when the feature would be added to duplicate a Nextgen Document? I had a look at the roadmap for planned features and I don't see it on there. It would be quite useful to have some sort of one click feature to duplicate documents, rather than having to export, import and transition a document just to make a copy.
Thanks!0Hi David,
Thanks for the reminder. Yes, the ability to copy a Document in next generation is now available. To initiate a copy, simply right-click on the file in Wdesk Home and choose "Copy (Beta)".
Let me know if you do not see it, or you have any questions for me. Thanks again and have a super day!0Thanks for confirming that Mike. I don't have as many options as you do in the drop down menu (for NextGen files, I only have Rename, Move and Permissions). The only file type that I have the Clone (Beta) option for is a Project. Let me check with our CSM to see if it's a setting that needs to be enabled.
Have a great day!0Ah yes, you are right. This option would be available for you if you had the Workspace Admin role. 0Hi Thresa and David,
After further clarifying with the team, I wanted to provide a quick update. While this option is certainly available, you will not see it for next generation Documents (or Spreadsheets) unless the file(s) are in a Project. If you right-click on the project containing these files, you'll see the option to Copy, so long as you are Workspace Admin.
Sorry for the confusion there. Give me a holler if you need anything else. Thanks again, and happy copying!0All of my projects are in the classic format. I've tried creating a new project but it doesn't give me an option to create an 8-K project, only "Other". I'm the Admin on the account. 0Hi Bill,
My first guess is that your Workspace type is set to something that is non-filing. Most commonly, its set to a General type. If it is, then filing type projects/documents would not be available.
I'll connect with our Support Team offline here and see if we can address that for you. Assuming that's the case, your CSM should be in contact soon regarding that. If that isn't the case, let me know and we can keep digging for sure.
Thanks, and chat with you soon. Cheers!0Please sign in to leave a comment.
