Control wording changes from Round 1 reflected in testing

If control wording changes from Round 1 ('R1') to Round 2 - how do you retain the original control wording for Round 1. Ultimately we would like to have the control wording at R1 remain with the testing executed at R1 & the new wording reflective for future rounds of testing

    Are you referring to interium and rollfoward? If so, you merely have to add a newtest phase for each "round of testing" so there is no need to rename any controls.

    WDesk's new feature snapshot might be able to record the old wording. But currently, I don't think you can do that. The new wording will be applied to the old testing you did.

    I read you question wrong.  You would have a test form for the old control which will be associated with that #. You would then create a new test phase for the new # and testing would be associated only with the new number. I had to do this last year and I cross referenced the two in the tester notes field. This will only work if you create a new control and don't rename the control. If you rename the control all testing will have the new number on it.

    I still read this wrong. control wording for the control would be available in the audit log for the control but the control wording will only show the currently wording. I attached a screen shot of what the history on the right side of a control form looks like. you can also run a report of control description changes.

    We actually have a two step process where we keep the old wording and then state "through 3/31/18" and then add the new wording as "as of 4/1/18...", then at year end we remove the old wording. The only real issue is that the testing shows it that way, but it was the easiest way to handle for us.

    First off, i appreciate all of the great responses .  I think that the process that Ruth has instituted may work.  We wanted to keep the control wording from Round 1 so we can prove that we tested the control accurately at that point in time and when the updated control wording was entered we would then test to the new control. 

    So Ruth - where do you have maintain this two test process?  Do you add the wording 'through 03/31/18;', etc. directly into the control wording?

    Dorothea, I hope this will work for you.

    We put the updated wording directly into the control wording itself. This will then show in the test sheet and we can validate that the testing was accurate based on the time period tested (if the control change was 4/1 and the test was performed 2/4, we are specifically testing for that control wording). Due to the control wording update, when we perform the round 2 or rollforward testing, we are able to ensure we test the new process. 

    I then set a reminder (via Outlook, but you can use any other tool that works) to update the control wording at the end of the fiscal year. After the end of the year (subsequent to the control testing for the year), I update the control wording to remove the reference and we are set for the current year.
