Delete a control without removing the test form

Is it possible to prevent test forms from being automatically deleted when a control is removed?  We have to store Test Forms for a period of time based on various regulations (SOX, FINRA, NFA, FCA, etc.).  We have noticed if an older control gets deleted the past test forms also get removed.

    I asked this question in the past. Workiva response was to define decommission date on a control. This way you do not see it listed in "active" control on the "Risk & Control" experience, but the previous test forms are still available.

    We decommission the control and leave it in that state for two years like mentioned above. Then delete it from the database once it's been decommissioned for two years. All of your prior year testing is locked and available in the Snapshots view from the Database.  It's not the most convenient way to go back and pull in bulk if that's needed frequently, but for the rare occasional something is needed from 3 or more years ago, it works fine for us.
