    Hi Bryan Gregston,

Apologies for the massive delay here! Updating this thread with current information:

    1. "Use Bookmarks to Create PDF Outline" — Where to find it
This option is available when exporting a document directly as a PDF:
    • File toolbar → Save As → PDF (.pdf)
    • Expand the advanced options and select "Use bookmarks to create PDF outline"

    2. Bookmark hierarchy in the PDF outline
Currently, Workiva bookmarks are stored and displayed in a flat list (ordered by their position in the document) — there is no ability to nest or create parent/child levels among bookmarks. As a result, the PDF outline generated from bookmarks will also be flat, without the collapsible hierarchy you'd get from using document sections.

    3. "Use bookmarks to create PDF outline" from the file folders
When exporting a PDF from the file folders level (e.g., when appending exhibits), the advanced PDF export options — including the bookmarks setting — are not available. This remains a known limitation. The workaround is to export the main document and exhibits separately, then combine them externally using a PDF editor.

And a follow up question: I don't see an option for "use bookmarks to create the PDF outline" when saving a PDF from the file folders in WDesk.  I'd like to use the bookmarks to improve the appearance and functionality of the PDF versions, but if I append our exhibits for executive signatures to the 10-Q, then the PDF defaults back to using the segments for the outline.  Is there any way around this as well?

Just wanted to check on this question.  Seems like it might have been missed.
