Overview
The Chain Blueprint Download feature allows your Chain Security Admins or Workspace Admins who have access to a chain to download a record version of that chain as a JSON-format file. This allows them to track changes in Chains using standard change-management practices and tools to identify what changed from a previous version, validating approved scope, and retaining audit evidence.
Having an exported Chain record also permits more efficient troubleshooting of Chain issues, as it is easier to compare a chain versions against a known-good version without having to rely on screenshots or manual review inside Workiva.
To create the JSON file, the chain is dynamically reconstructed from source database records and includes: command groups, commands, Chain events, variables, dynamic variables, trigger information, notifications, and outputs.
Note: The JSON file does not include vault-backed secret values, vault key paths, or any other encrypted fields, nor does it contain placeholders for any of these values.
Export the JSON record
- In Workiva, click Chains in the left sidebar.
- In the new tab, click Chains in the left sidebar.
- Locate the Chain you want the record for.
- Click the hamburger menu at the left end of the Chain row, and then click Versions.
Note: If you have the Chain open on the ChainBuilder canvas, you can also click the hamburger menu next to Settings at the upper right corner of the canvas and select Versions there. - Locate the version you want to export in the panel listing all the versions at the left of the screen, and click the download icon.
The JSON record file will be downloaded to your normal download location.
