Visualizations let you build charts, tables, and pivot tables from data already in your workspace, then reuse them in documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. You build them in the Visualization Editor and manage them from the Report visuals page.
Visualizations are available in two products today, and each one draws on its own data. Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) visualizations are built from your GRC solution data. Workiva Carbon visualizations are built from your emissions and spend data. The editor works the same way in both, but the data behind it and some of the available features differ.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions
Why don't I see Report visuals?
You need the correct role in your workspace — either the Administrator role for GRC or one of three BI roles for Workiva Carbon.
Can I see my data as it looked on a past date, or track how it's changed?
In GRC, yes. Dimension settings let you view your data as it is today, as it looked on a specific date in the past, or as a trend across a series of dates. To learn more, see Create and edit visualizations (GRC).
In Workiva Carbon, no. Carbon visualizations show your data as it is now. To compare periods, add a date field to your visualization and group by it.
Do I have to rebuild a visualization when my data changes?
No. Anything you insert stays connected to its source. Refresh the connection and the inserted copy updates wherever it's been used.
Can I use the same visualization in more than one file?
Yes. Insert it as many times as you need, in any document, presentation, or spreadsheet in the same workspace. Each insertion is its own connection back to the same source, so updating the source reaches all of them the next time each connection is refreshed.
Styling you apply to an inserted copy affects only that copy.
What happens to inserted copies if the source is deleted?
The inserted copies stay where they are, showing the data from the last successful refresh, but they stop updating. The Connections panel shows that the connection is broken.
From there you can point the connection at a different visualization, or remove the connection and keep what's already in the file as static content.
Can I export a visualization or its data?
Exporting visualizations and their underlying data isn't supported at this time.
