Workiva Carbon enables you to measure your company's emissions and environmental impact to help calculate and reduce its carbon footprint. From your Sustainability Reporting workspace, you can use chains created from the Workiva Carbon Refresh template by Workiva or your implementation parter.
With these chains, you can easily download your company's data from Workiva Carbon, including:
- Monthly emissions entries
- Calculated carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions
- Details about the chosen methodology
In addition to these chains, your workspace also includes:
- Workiva Carbon control sheet Spreadsheet, to specify the parameters of the data to download
- Workiva Carbon lead sheet Spreadsheet, to curate the downloaded data by location, group, and greenhouse gas (GHG) activity for each Scope category
Note: These Spreadsheets and their connected queries are provided by Workiva. If you don't have the Workiva Carbon refresh chain and its Spreadsheets but are interested, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or implementation partner.
Refresh data from Workiva Carbon
To update the Workiva Carbon lead sheet Spreadsheet with the latest carbon accounting data from Workiva Carbon, use the Workiva Carbon control sheet Spreadsheet and Workiva Carbon refresh chain.
- From the Control sheet section of the Workiva Carbon control sheet Spreadsheet, select the year of the data to download.
- Choose whether to download all entries for the year, or only those for a specific month:
- For all entries, select Yes in Annual refresh?
- For only a month's entries, select No in Annual refresh?, then select which month's entries to download in Transaction month.

From Chain Builder, select the Workiva Carbon refresh chain, and click Execute and then Run chain.
Tip: You can track the status of the chain's current run from the Status sheet of the Workiva Carbon control sheet Spreadsheet. If the chain runs with errors, refer to the chain logs to ease troubleshooting.
- From the Workiva Carbon lead sheet Spreadsheet, refresh the incoming connections for the Workiva Carbon mapping dropdown and the desired aggregations — location, group, or GHG category/activity.
To refresh a connection, select it in the Connections panel, select the time period of the data to refresh in Parameters, and click Apply & refresh.
Use Workiva Carbon lead sheet Spreadsheet
The Workiva Carbon lead sheet Spreadsheet contains the data downloaded from Workiva Carbon, with a separate sheet for each aggregation.

Note: The Workiva Carbon mapping dropdown sheet provides the available GHG scopes, groups, and locations for the other sheets.
To use this data in your reporting outputs:
- Connect the cell as the source for a Program metric value.
- Create a link from the cell to the destination file of the reporting output.
