Industry insight
As discussed in September's edition, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) drafted revisions to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) to help clarify and simplify the Standards and their disclosure requirements. EFRAG recently delivered their Technical Advice on these revisions to the European Commission (EC).
The EC is anticipated to adopt the finalized, simplified ESRS as a Delegated Act in early 2026, at which point the new version of the Standards becomes legally binding for Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) reporting.

What's next
Looking ahead to 2026 and the impact of the aforementioned simplified ESRS, you'll be able to start to prepare to adopt the simplified Standards before they become law.
If you include the ESRS in Sustainability Explorer, you'll be able to view EFRAG's draft simplified Standards — as recently delivered to the EC — in the new year. With this content, you'll be able to review the revised disclosure requirements to help determine how they impact your reporting and data collection needs. To help ease data collection, you'll also be able to align these simplified Standards and requirements with metrics in Sustainability Program.
To further help ease adoption, you'll also be able to use a new ESRS Transition Accelerator to automatically compare the current Standards to the draft simplified ESRS and highlight potential impacts to Program metrics aligned with their disclosure requirements.
With the ESRS Transition Accelerator, you'll be able to:
- Review all amendments proposed by EFRAG.
- Focus on your company's material disclosures and the impact on your data collection needs.
- Decide how to adjust Sustainability Program based on the simplification, and generate import templates to create or update metrics in bulk to make these adjustments.
You can learn more about these upcoming enhancements in the Workiva Community.
