Industry insight
As we rapidly approach the end of 2025, a quick reminder of some upcoming reporting deadlines:
-
California Senate Bill 261 — SB261 requires companies with at least $500M in annual revenue doing business in California to publicly disclose their climate-related financial risks and mitigation strategy every two years, starting January 1, 2026. For this first year, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) indicates that good-faith, minimum reporting requirements are acceptable.
To identify risks for SB261, you can use Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) S2: Climate-related Disclosures, or the draft checklist from CARB — all of which are now available for Sustainability Explorer!
- International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) — Depending on region, your company may need to release its initial report using IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards when it publishes its annual financial statements.
To help ease materiality and gap assessments for IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards — for either SB261 or ISSB — you can work with Workiva or your implementation partner to deploy supplemental templates and files. Details below!

What's new
The IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards — issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) — helps companies disclose consistent, comparable, and verifiable information about the impact of sustainability-related risks and opportunities (ROs).
To prepare to report using these Standards, you can now supplement your Sustainability Reporting workspace with additional templates and files, including:
- Assessment templates to collect stakeholder perspectives on the financial impact — or materiality — of ROs
- ISSB gap assessment, to identify gaps in data collection or reporting for both general disclosures and ROs
- Gap assessment results and visualization, to help track the gaps identified at-a-glance
- ISSB datapoint accelerator, to easily create or update metrics in Sustainability Program to help resolve gaps identified
- IFRS - ISSB section within your Factbook spreadsheet, to ease reporting of general disclosures
- Sample ISSB report document, as inspiration or a starting point
Additional cost may apply to deploy these files as an add-on to your Sustainability Reporting workspace. For details, contact your Workiva Customer Success Manager (CSM) or implementation partner.

Use Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards instead? You can alternatively supplement your workspace with similar files to assess readiness for the ASRS.
