You can add headers and footers to display important information across your document. Headers appear above the gray dashed line at the top of your document, while footers appear below the dashed line at the bottom of the page.
You can access header and footer properties at any time by selecting the appropriate tab in the Properties panel or clicking inside a header or footer region.
Create a header or footer
To create a header or footer:
- Click the header or footer region.
- Type your text. You can format and align the text using the options in the Edit toolbar.
The new header or footer appears on each page in that section of the document. To add the header or footer to subsequent sections, use the Same as previous section option in the Settings section.
To learn how to add different content to your headers and footers, see Insert header and footer content.
Set header properties
Using the Properties menu, you can reuse headers across sections or create different headers within the same section.
- Same as previous section: This section uses the same header as the section before it.
- Alternating pages: Odd-numbered pages use one header, while even-numbered pages use a different header.
- Different first page: The first page of the section uses a different header than following pages. If alternating headers are also applied, they'll begin after the first page of the section.
- Different last page: The last page of the section uses a different header than previous pages. If alternating headers are also applied, they'll end before the last page of the section.
If the header or footer in your selected section originates from another section, you'll see that section's name in the Starts From field. To make changes to headers or footers starting in other sections, use the Jump To button to navigate to the original section's header.
Adjust header and footer size
To change the width of your header or footer:
- Click the header region to open the Properties panel.
- In the Margins section, adjust the number in the Left and Right boxes.
- To match the margin width to the entire page, check Match section margins.
To change how far down the page your header starts:
