The Workiva platform has fairly low requirements for using our platform: a modern web browser, a modern, vendor-supported operating system, a broadband internet connection, and moderate computer hardware. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact Workiva Support.

Minimum system requirements
Workiva’s minimum system requirements for operating systems follow the vendor’s support schedule. For example, Microsoft’s support for Windows 10 will end in 2025. Likewise, Workiva’s support for Windows 10 will end on the same date. Please be aware that this requirement applies not only to the browser-based application, but to installable desktop and mobile applications as well.

* Because the Workiva platform is a real-time collaborative application, Workiva-related network traffic performs best when it's treated as a trusted Internet service and allowed to bypass much of the traditional filtering and scanning that some organizations place on network traffic to untrusted internet services.
This typically includes removing outbound processing such as proxy user authentication and packet inspection, as well as ensuring local egress to the Internet with the proper Network Address Translation (NAT) and enough bandwidth capacity to handle the increased network requests. Increased network security using technologies like proxies, SSL inspection, packet inspection, and data loss prevention systems, can dramatically reduce performance, scalability, and the quality of end user experience when applied to Workiva endpoints. Workiva strongly recommends avoiding the use of Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) or Cloud Protection solutions with our platform.

Requirements for GroundRunners
At this time, GroundRunners can be installed on the following operating system families with no external library dependencies:
- Windows and Windows Server
- macOS
- Linux distros and derivatives
- RedHat, CentOS, Fedora, AmazonLinux
- Debian/Ubuntu
Workiva strives to support all modern versions of the OS families listed above. We cannot, however, support any operating system that has been designated as "end of life" by its vendor. These older operating systems pose potential security risks and should be updated to a current version as soon as possible.
Note: Each operating system's support schedule is set by the individual vendor. For example, Microsoft's support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020; Workiva's support for Windows 7 ended on the same date.
Hardware requirements
While GroundRunners require limited server resources, we recommend at least:
- 512MB of available random access memory (RAM)
- 100GB of available disk space
Note: To help calculate the required disk space, know that a chain with five commands that each produce 10MB ephemeral outputs requires 50MB to complete.
The recommended host configuration includes a virtual machine configured with:
- Two to four processors
- 8GB of system memory
- A solid state drive (SSD) storage device
This server must be available 24/7 to communicate with the GroundRunner.
Why we have browser and operating system requirements
Up-to-date browsers and operating systems provide a better user experience. More specifically, it offers these benefits:
Security: Using an up-to-date browser and fully-supported operating system is the best way to protect yourself and your company from online threats. Outdated browsers and operating systems often stop providing upgrades that are necessary to keep them secure, opening your users up to risks outside of Workiva’s control.
Speed: Up-to-date browsers reduce loading time, which create increased efficiency for you.
Innovation: Not having to focus development effort on functionality in older browsers gives us more time to innovate for the future, resulting in a better application for you.
