To help analyze a query, you can create a view to visualize its results as:
- A flat table, such as for reference or analysis
- A pivot table, to summarize its data
- A chart, for a graphical representation the data
To update a view with the latest query results, open it from Wdata Home , and click Refresh View .
Note: To automatically create or update a pivot view of a query's results, build a chain with a Create Pivot View or Update Pivot View command through a Workiva connection.
Create a view of a query's results
- From Wdata Home , open the query to create a view of, and click Create View .
- From the new view, select how to display the query results.
- For a table, click Layout , select whether to view the data as a flat or pivot table, and design the table as necessary.
- For a chart, click Charts , and select the graphical representation for the data, such as Bar or Pie , and design its values as necessary.
- For a table, click Layout , select whether to view the data as a flat or pivot table, and design the table as necessary.
- If the query includes parameters, click Data Source Properties on the right panel, set the criteria of the data to include, and click Refresh.
- Click Save , Save.
- To help identify the view and its intent, enter its name and description.
- Select the folder to save the view in. To save the view at the root, select No Folder Selected.
- Click Save View.
- To share the view with others, click Permissions , and select each collaborator's access.
- Click Save , Save.
Note: To undo changes and return a view to its previous saved version, click Reset . If you collaborate on the view with others, its previous saved version may not be your last save.
Create a view based on another view
To create a view similar to another view, create a copy of the existing view and adjust the copy as necessary:
- From Wdata Home , open the view to copy.
- Click Save , Save As.
- To help identify the new view and its intent, enter its name and description. For example, explain how or why the copy differs from the existing view.
- Select the folder to save the view in. To save the view at the root, select No Folder Selected.
- Click Save View.
- Adjust the new view as necessary.
Manage a view's details and properties
From Wdata Home , you can view when a view was created and last modified. For additional details about a view, select its row. From the Details panel, you can find information such as the view's description and source query and tables.
- To locate a source query or table in its folder on the All tab from the Details panel, click its Go to source .
- To open a query or table from the Details panel, select Open from its menu.
For the name, description, or details about the last refresh of a view, open it from Wdata Home , and click View Properties on the right panel. To update the view's name or description, edit it as necessary.
Use a view outside of Wdata
To use a view outside of Wdata, click Export , and select how to use the view.
- To connect the view to a sheet in Spreadsheets, click Export , select To Spreadsheet , select the sheet to export to, and click Export to Spreadsheet.
- To download the view's data as a comma-separated values (CSV) file, select To CSV .
- To download the view's data as a Microsoft Excel® workbook, select To XLSX .
- To download the view as a portable network graphics (PNG) file, select To Image .
- To download the view as a portable document file (PDF), select To PDF .
- To send the view to a printer, select Print .
