ESG
Email notification when new ESG Program year copies source files
When you add a new reporting year to the ESG Program, you can choose whether to copy or roll forward the connected source files for metric values. If you choose to roll forward source files for the new year, the ESG Program now sends an email notification when it successfully creates their copies.
To learn more, see Roll forward and manage reporting years in ESG Program.
Generative AI

The "Copy" button has been removed for code-formatted content from Generative AI responses. To copy code-formatted content, select the content and use the right-click context menu.
Use Workiva Generative AI within Files
We're excited to announce a new way to use Workiva Generative AI – directly within Files! This update makes it easier than ever to leverage the power of AI for your document analysis and reporting needs.
Why this matters:
- Faster Insights: Access Generative AI without interrupting your workflow. Simply select the files you're working with and ask your questions.
- Contextualized Responses: By selecting specific files, you provide relevant context to the AI, resulting in more accurate and tailored responses.
- Increased Discoverability: The prominent placement of "Ask Generative AI" within the file context menu makes it easy to find and use.
Getting Started:
- In Files, select one or more supported document files (Workiva Documents and uploaded PDFs).
- Right-click and choose "Ask Generative AI."
- Enter your prompt or use the pre-populated "Tell me about:" prompt.
- Submit your request and review the AI-generated response.
This feature is currently available for document files and uploaded PDFs. Support for additional file types is planned for future releases. If you have any questions, please pass them along to your Customer Success Manager to share with our product team.
GRC
Change to permission requirements for workflow actions
To improve security and consistency in access control, we have changed how permissions work when users take action in workflows. Previously, the system allowed users with Viewer access to progress or return an assessment’s workflow. Users will now need Edit access to make these changes.
Impact:
- Users must now have Edit access to perform transitions.
- This change does not affect Procedure permissions for users.
- Users who already have the correct permissions will see no change relative to permissions.
Platform
Chart-backed data is now included in XLIFF export when tables are excluded in export
When "Exclude Tables" is selected in a language project, this will now only exclude document tables, it will not exclude chart-backed tables.
Overriding cell links
Overriding destination cell links is now available in documents. Previously, link overrides were only available for narrative text links (with the text value format style), but now you can also override destination cell links. To do so, simply right-click on the cell and select "Override Links".
This new feature allows for exceptions or customizations to specific destination links while maintaining the document's audit trail. Override access is restricted to document owners and editors to ensure proper control.
To learn more, see Override a link.
Processes
Updated historical timestamp
To alleviate confusion, all historical timestamps are now shown in the user’s local time zone as defined by their profile preferences. Tooltips will display the timestamp in the user’s local time, with the UTC offset (UTC - X).
Changed process CSV import date formatting
CSV exports will continue using UTC date format, however, dates are now formatted in the global standard (YYYY-MM-DD) instead of MM-DD-YYYY.
Important: If you perform post-processing on CSV exports, review and update any workflows that rely on the previous date format to ensure a smooth transition.
Structured Content Management
Update to Prototype Platform API: custom field endpoints
The custom field patch endpoints have been deprecated in favor of new domain-specific patch endpoints. To update custom fields values, leverage the new API patch endpoints that are specific to the domain you are updating. You can review the updated API documentation on our API portal [Document example | Section example].
Note: This API is still in prototype and only available to select customers.
XBRL
Automatic table splitting for German XML
To meet German XML taxonomy requirements, you can now choose to automatically have documents split tables having more than 7 columns. You can enable this feature in Report settings on the Table tab.
Wdata
Wdata Query Widget now available
In solutions with Wdata enabled, Wdata Query widgets can now be added to Home boards to allow at-a-glance view of your most important data.
This widget allows users with to select an existing Wdata query to which they have access and then run, view, filter, and sort the results in a tabular format right from Home. With the addition of tailored home assignment functionality available to Workspace Owners, these widgets can also be shared with other groups or individuals with appropriate permissions to let them easily view the data they need right when they log in.
Chains
Key-pair authentication is now available for the Snowflake JDBC connector
We've added a key-pair authentication option to Workiva's Snowflake JDBC connector that will enable a more modern and secure connection to your Snowflake database.
Importantly, this update complies with Snowflake's updated security standards for single-factor logins that will take effect in November 2025. While basic authentication will still be supported until that date, we recommend moving to key-pair authentication (external link) as soon as possible.
