Charts
New: Vertical chart data labels
You can now rotate chart data labels vertically, as well as horizontally. This is especially useful when there are many data points and labels are overlapping, such in column charts.
To get started:
1. Select a single or all series on a chart
2. Turn on data labels
3. Notice the option to adjust label orientation
You have 3 options to choose from:
1. Horizontal (default)
2. Ascending (Vertical, right-facing)
3. Descending (Vertical, left-facing)
This feature works on column, line, area, waterfall and scatter charts. This feature is not available on pie charts or horizontal bar charts. Enjoy!
Content management
Sharing smart links with placeholders
Going forward, you will now be permitted to share smart links across workspaces, which contain content placeholders.
Those content placeholders will be included with as part of the smart link as it shared and can be populated on a per file basis within the consuming workspaces just as you experience within a workspace.
Note: Smart links containing content placeholders cannot be inserted into spreadsheets as there is not spreadsheet support for content placeholders.
ESG
Assess readiness for European Sustainability Reporting Standards
From ESG Explorer, you can now create a Readiness Assessment to help your company prepare to report using the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), such as to comply with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
From this guided and iterative Readiness Assessment, you can:
- Identify the disclosures to assess, such as based on a double-materiality assessment (DMA)
- Record whether to report or omit disclosures, and provide documentation to explain reporting decisions
- Assess the data available for each disclosure, and quickly identify ESG Program metrics that may already collect related values
- Create tasks and new ESG Program metrics to resolve gaps in preparedness or data collection
Readiness Assessments currently support the ESRS only and are available for:
- Workspaces in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) – with URLs that begin with eu.wdesk.com — that have ESRS enabled in ESG Explorer
- North America or Asia-Pacific workspaces — with URLs that begin with app.wdesk.com or apac.wdesk.com, respectively — that have the CSRD add-on enabled

Generative AI
AWS model upgrade
We have upgraded the AI model powering the AWS AI Provider option for Workiva Generative AI from Claude 3 Sonnet to Claude 3.5 Sonnet in Production US and Production EU. This will increase the performance and quality of the responses when using that model.
GRC
Streamlined filter clearing options
We removed the Clear Filter button next to Quick Status Filters to simplify filter management and enhance clarity. Now, you can quickly clear a status filter by clicking the status in the quick status filter bar or any table filter by using the ‘remove all’ filters in the table filter.
XBRL
XBRL Tagging on Content Placeholders
You are now able to create XBRL Fact on the Content Placeholders within your document. Simply select the placeholder within the text of your document, a source link or a destination link and create a fact. From here you are able to manage the XBRL tagging like any other XBRL fact in the platform.
Ability to exclude Standard Members from Presentation Links used as Anchors
In ESEF tagging you now have the ability to hide Standard Member Concepts from being included in the presentation linkbase when they are not presented in your report while still keeping them in your XBRL Outline to be used as Anchors for your extension members. Simply right click on the stand member(s) which are parents and/or children to you extended members in the outline and choose to Hide from presentation.
Wdata API and Chains
Updated limits for "Refresh" commands
We've updated two API calls — Refresh connection and Refresh batch of connections — to better handle parallel refreshes. Moving forward, only one Refresh
command per connection can be executed at a time and any additional refreshes will trigger a 409 Conflict response. When this occurs, you can retrieve the jobID from the response details and use it in a Refresh status
request.
Please note that this change also affects the equivalent commands for the Workiva connector, and a "refresh is already in progress" warning will trigger for each connection when a refresh command is currently running. Your chains will continue without failing, by using the results from the original refresh request.
