POWER

Description

Use this function to return the result of a number raised to a power. Supported in Chains.

This function is an alternative to the exponent operator (^).

POWER(number, power)

This function has the following arguments:

Name	Required	Description	Valid input
`number`	Yes	The number to be multiplied.	A cell reference, a number, or a formula which results in either of these.
`power`	Yes	The value of the power to be applied to the number.	A cell reference, a number, or a formula which results in either of these.

Use case	Formula	Explanation and Result
Raise a number to a specified power.	`=POWER(4, B1)`	This formula works in the following manner: `POWER(`: This is the function itself. `4`: This is the `number` (the base). `B1`: This is the `power` (the exponent), which references B1 (value 2). The formula calculates 4^2. Result: 16.
Raise a number in a cell to a power in another cell.	`=POWER(A2, B2)`	This formula works in the following manner: `POWER(`: This is the function itself. `A2`: The `number` (the base), referencing A2 (value 9). `B2`: The `power` (the exponent), referencing B2 (value 4). The formula calculates 9^4. Result: 6561.
Raise a number to a power that is a sum of other values.	`=POWER(A3, B2+B3)`	This formula works in the following manner: `B2+B3`: The inner expression (4 + 2.5) is calculated first, resulting in 6.5. `POWER(`: This is the function itself. `A3`: The `number` (the base), referencing A3 (value 5). `6.5`: The result of the inner expression is used as the `power`. The formula calculates 5^6.5. Result: 34938.5621484342.
Raise a number to a fractional power.	`=POWER(A3, 5/4)`	This formula works in the following manner: `5/4`: The inner expression is calculated first, resulting in 1.25. `POWER(`: This is the function itself. `A3`: The `number` (the base), referencing A3 (value 5). `1.25`: The result of the inner expression is used as the `power`. The formula calculates 5^1.25. Result: 7.476743906106103.
