After setting up your document as a German XML document and populating your information, you can begin reviewing your document and resolving issues in preparation for filing.
Review formatting
Workiva currently supports floating tables, images, and charts in XML output. Textboxes, shapes, and floating content without an anchor are not supported at this time.
Note: Floating text placement is based on an anchor point, so placement in the output may not match the position in your source document. Always review your output document before filing.
After mapping styles and populating your document, you should review your document to ensure that all formatting has been applied correctly. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Reviewing headings to ensure they have been applied to the appropriate text and styled correctly
- Reviewing body text to ensure it has been applied to the appropriate text and styled correctly
- Checking tables to ensure all content is formatted and displayed correctly
- Checking content breaks across pages acceptably
Resolve validation issues
Once your document's content has been reviewed for style and accuracy, you can review the document for compliance with regulator guidance.
First, click Generate in the toolbar. For the first generation, you should choose Full Generation to generate your entire document. Generating the current section or a specific section may cause dependency issues which are resolved by including other sections or the entire document.
You can see the full details of all validation issues by clicking Validations in the toolbar. Validation issues generally fall into 3 categories:
- Informational: Marked with a blue icon, these messages inform you of an issue that was detected but will not cause any issue when filing.
- Warning: Using a yellow icon, validation warnings inform you of issues that will not stop or suspend your filing, but may warrant further review.
- Error: Red icons indicate an issue which will cause a filing error, resulting in a suspended filing or other problem. These normally require some action to resolve and may or may not be linked to a location in the document.
You should regenerate your document after resolving issues, as multiple issues may be related to the same problem. Continue resolving issues and regenerating your document until all issues have been addressed.
Submitting your documents
When you've confirmed your content and addressed all issues in your documents, you are ready to file. You can download the documents needed for filing, including images and the generated XML files. Once downloaded, you can submit these files to your regulator.
