GroundRunners enable chain commands to interact with on-premises systems or remote data sources not otherwise accessible over the internet. Because GroundRunners are installed on a dedicated server not directly managed by Workiva, we closely align our support schedule with that established by each vendor.
This means that Workiva can only guarantee the security of your data and the continued operation of your GroundRunners when using a current, fully-supported version of these operating systems:
- Windows and Windows Server
- macOS
- Linux distros and derivatives
- RedHat, Fedora, AmazonLinux
- Debian/Ubuntu
When a vendor ends support for an operating system and no further security updates are planned, we (Workiva) likewise designate that software as end-of-life (EoL). After this time, we can no longer guarantee that your GroundRunners will continue to operate correctly and any continued use of these operating systems is at your own risk.
General Support
Support Until EOL: We support GroundRunners on the operating system editions listed above while the operating system vendor still provides security updates (both mainstream and extended support).
Limited Resolution in Extended Support: Once an operating system enters extended (security‑only) support, our ability to troubleshoot or resolve certain issues may be constrained by the operating system vendor’s reduced support. We will make reasonable efforts to resolve an issue, but you (the customer) may be asked to reproduce issues on a fully-supported operating system or upgrade your host for full resolution.
End‑of‑Life (EOL)
Unsupported after Vendor EoL: When the operating system vendor ends all support (no more security updates), that operating system will no longer be supported for GroundRunners.
Risk of Continued Use: Running on an EoL operating system is done at your own risk; we cannot guarantee operation, fixes, or security on unsupported platforms.
Customer responsibilities
Maintain Patching: Ensure your GroundRunner hosts receive all operating system security patches (including all paid Extended Security Updates, if required).
Plan Upgrades: Monitor the operating system vendor lifecycles and upgrade schedules so that your environment never falls outside the supported window.
Reproduce on Supported OS: If an issue is rooted in an operating system bug the vendor won’t fix, please be prepared to reproduce it on a currently-supported operating system version.
