With boards, you and your team can change what Home looks like for you, so that everyone can get quick access to the information most relevant to them. If you are a Workspace Owner, see Create, assign, and manage boards in Home to learn about other board functionalities that you can do.
Note: If you’re a brand new user in the workspace, you’ll see a default board created by Workiva. If you want to edit this default board, you can first duplicate it and then make changes to the duplicated board. You can also create a new board and set it as your primary board.
Create a board
- From Home, click Create board.
- Add and organize widgets on the board according to your needs (see Available widgets). Your board will be automatically saved.
To add a widget to your board:
- Next to the board name, click the Add widget dropdown.
- Select the type of widget you'd like to add.
The widget is added to your dashboard.
Depending on the widget, you can edit certain properties by expanding the dropdown menu and clicking Edit.
With some widgets, you can also filter or sort the data, rename the widget, or rearrange the columns.
To move a widget:
- Go to the widget you want to move.
- Place your cursor near the top of the widget.
- When your cursor changes to the open hand icon, click and hold the widget.
- Move the widget where you want it and release. Widgets will automatically shuffle based on where you put it.
To resize a widget:
- Go to the widget you want to resize.
- Place your cursor near the bottom corner edge.
- Click and hold to resize the widget, then release.
To remove a widget:
- Go to the widget you want to remove.
- Expand the dropdown menu in the widget and select Remove.
- Next to the board name, click the Add widget dropdown.
Edit and manage a board
Note: We've removed the ability to customize background colors in order to align with accessibility best practices.
While viewing a board that you created, you can edit it by adding and organizing widgets as needed. Any changes that you make will be automatically saved.
You can also perform various operations like Rename, Duplicate, and Delete by clicking Manage board and selecting the respective option.
Edit and manage a view-only board
Boards that you didn't create and that have been assigned to you by a Workspace Owner or someone with a custom role with the Board Assigner ability will be view-only. To add and organize the widgets on the board, you can first duplicate it and then make changes to the duplicated board.
However, depending on the widget, you’ll still be able to filter or sort the data, or rearrange the columns directly in the widget for your personal needs, even if the board is view-only.
Switch between boards
To switch between the different available boards, which includes boards that you created and boards that have been assigned to you, click the dropdown arrow next to the current board’s name and switch to a different board.
Note: Any templates that you created in the old Home experience have been changed into boards. You can switch to those boards to manage them.
Set a primary board
A Workspace Owner or someone with a custom role with the Board Assigner ability can set a board as your primary board so that it’s the first board you see upon opening Home. You can override this and set your own primary board by switching to your preferred board, clicking Manage board, and selecting Set as my primary board.
