Prompts are the text that you enter into Workiva AI to generate a response. Better prompts will get better responses, so you can use Workiva AI more effectively in your work.
Use the following guidelines to write effective prompts, and use the prompt advisor for more inspiration.
Requirements
- Workiva AI is available to any customer who has signed the Workiva AI Terms of Use. Once approved, Workiva AI is enabled by default for the entirety of the organization, including all existing and newly added workspaces and users.
- Org Admins can manage this enablement by restricting Workiva AI to specific workspaces and users or disabling it for the entire organization.
- Workiva AI is fully encrypted and never trained on Workiva content or customer data. Learn more: Workiva's approach to AI
Be specific
Clearly state your question or request. Longer prompts generally mean more clarity. The more precise and specific you are, the better Workiva AI can understand and provide a useful response.
You can mention:
- Topic
- Length of response (number of sentences, words, or characters)
- Style (formal, informal, etc.)
- Structure (essay, blog, song, etc.)
- Intent or audience for your ask
- Output format
Provide context
Give some background information or context that's related to your question or request. You can do this by taking advantage of intelligent file referencing and referencing section text in documents as part of your prompt, or you can add context directly into the prompt. This helps Workiva AI understand the topic and provide a more accurate response.
For example
- An ineffective prompt: "Write me a remediation strategy for a control failure."
- A better prompt: "You are a governance risk and compliance (GRC) analyst. The GRC Analyst works closely with other security analysts on projects associated with risk assessment and mitigation, tools and controls selection, and contributes with efforts that pertain to risk. Write me a detailed remediation strategy for the accounts payable control failure outlined in the document @[insert file name] and provide a tactical strategy to mitigate this control failure."
Ask single questions
Ask questions one at a time for more focused responses. Ask followup questions after the response is complete.
Ask for creative input
To generate creative or imaginative responses, you can explicitly ask the model to "brainstorm," "think creatively," or "imagine" a scenario.
Experiment and iterate
If you're not satisfied with the initial response, you can try rephrasing or providing additional information using intelligent file referencing to get a better answer. Experimenting with different approaches can often yield improved results.
