You can use Workiva AI to edit and generate content inline within presentations and spreadsheets. When stumped by writer's block, simply select a text box or spreadsheet cell and ask Workiva AI to generate some content from scratch. You can also select existing content and ask your AI assistant for suggestions on how to improve it.
This complements the general Workiva AI chat and allows you to insert content directly into your current file.

Requirements
- Workiva AI is available to any customer who has signed the Workiva AI Terms of Use. Once approved, Workiva AI is enabled by default for the entirety of the organization, including all existing and newly added workspaces and users.
- Org Admins can manage this enablement by restricting Workiva AI to specific workspaces and users or disabling it for the entire organization.
- Workiva AI is fully encrypted and never trained on Workiva content or customer data. Learn more: Workiva's approach to AI
Generate new content from scratch
To generate new content from scratch:
- Without highlighting anything, right-click in a text box or spreadsheet cell and select Workiva AI > Generate Content.
- Use one of the suggested prompts or write your own question.
- After generating your first draft, you can refine the result using the provided prompts such as "shorten" or "elaborate." You can also enter your own instructions into the chat box.
- When satisfied with the response, you can Insert it directly into the file, or copy the response and paste it somewhere else.
Improve existing content
Let's say you want to rephrase a paragraph in a project brief:
- Highlight the paragraph, right-click on the selection and select Workiva AI > Rephrase.
- The response might be too formal for your liking. Click Change tone and then Casual to make the response more casual.
- Don’t like the new tone? Click Undo to revert back to the previous response.
- If you'd like to provide custom instructions instead of using a prompt, enter them into the chat window. For example: "Keep Option 1, but remove first person pronouns."
- Once you’re satisfied, click Replace to overwrite the original highlighted content in your report with the new content.
