This feature is currently a Beta Feature. This Beta Feature is provided to you for technical testing and evaluation only from June 15, 2026 to September 13, 2026. Workiva may extend the testing period of the Preview Feature at its discretion. To add this feature to your workspace, contact your Customer Success Manager.
You can bring Workiva notification content directly to your Teams workspace. Once enabled, you’ll start receiving notifications for items such as: directed comments, tasks, reminders, requests, and more.
Teams notifications can be enabled at the organization level through an Organization Admin, which enables notifications for all workspaces within that organization. Each user can choose to opt out of receiving Teams notifications in their Workiva User Profile.
Overview of Teams notifications
Before enabling Teams notifications, it's recommended that you review the installation requirements and feature expectations.
Installation and configuration requirements
In order to participate in the beta program, manual installation and configuration is needed. The setup process will require:
- A Teams Admin to create a Workiva bot in your Teams workspace.
- A bearer token to be generated and added to the Workiva Organization Admin page where it will be stored securely. If the token is changed, you will need to replace the token.
Feature expectations
Teams notifications for Workiva are currently a beta feature. The available functionality and feature expectations are listed below:
- All notifications are sent one-way, from Workiva to Teams.
- To take action on any Workiva tasks, you will need to log into Workiva; no action can be taken directly from Teams.
- Notifications will be similar to email notifications, but they will be delivered to the Teams workspace in addition to being delivered via email.
- You can specify an alternate email if your Teams email is different from your work email.
- No configuration is available in Workiva to disable emails in favor of Teams messages. You can opt out of receiving Teams notifications by navigating to My Profile, selecting Preferences, and unchecking the box next to Enable Teams notifications.
Install the Workiva bot
To begin the installation process, a Teams Admin will need to add the Workiva bot to your Teams workspace.
Install from the Teams admin center
To add the Workiva bot through the Teams admin center
- Open the Teams admin center, and select Teams apps, then Manage apps.
- Search/select the Workiva app (it will be in the row that says Blocked by publisher).
- Click Allow (either from the list action, or inside the app details page)
Microsoft’s guidance: when an app is “Blocked by publisher”, an admin can select Allow to make it available. (This is how “block until admin action” is meant to work.) (learn.microsoft.com)
Install from the Microsoft Marketplace
(These instructions assume that you are already logged into the Microsoft Marketplace; if you are not you will be asked to complete that sign in process after Step 2.)
- Open https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/WA200010293
- Click Get it Now.
- Accept the permissions queries (if there are any).
Install from the Teams management tool
- Open https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/policies/manage-apps.
- Search for “Workiva Notification (US)” and select the app to open the App Details page.
- Select the Assignments tab.
- Select either Assign or Assign app.
- Select Everyone (or Specific users or groups if applicable).
App Permission Policies installation
- Navigate to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/policies/manage-apps.
- Select Org-wide app settings and navigate to Third-party apps.
- Under the Third-party apps section toggle Third-party apps to “on”.
- Navigate to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/policies/app-permission.
- Select the Global (Org-wide default) policy (or a custom one if you prefer) and click Edit.
- Under Third-party apps choose the desired option: Allow all apps, Block specific apps and allow all others or Allow specific apps and block all others.
- If you selected Allow specific apps and block all others, click Add apps.
- Search for “Workiva” and add the app.
Add Tenant ID to Workiva
An Organization Admin can add the Tenant ID token to Workiva organizations.
To add this token to a Workiva organization:
- Open Microsoft Teams and browse to any Team within the organization.
- Click the three dots to the right of the team name to open the More Options drop-down menu
- Select Get link to team.
- This will display a link to the team in the format below.
The Tenant Id is at the end of the URL and is a UUID immediately following the &tenantId= token. - In Workiva, navigate to the Org Admin page.
- In the Overview tab, select Configuration and choose Notifications.
- Check the box to Enable Microsoft Teams notifications and paste the Tenant Id in the text box.
- Click Save changes.
Note: Teams notifications can also be enabled for specific workspaces in Workiva. This uses the same process, except that it starts from the Workspace Admin page instead of the Org Admin page.
For more information, refer to the Microsoft support page How to find your Microsoft Entra tenant ID.
Install the Workiva App
Users cannot receive a Teams notification from Workiva without the app first being installed. The Teams Admin can do this for all users, or you can leave it up to each user to install themselves. Instructions for both methods are provided below.
Teams Admin installation
- Navigate to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/policies/manage-apps.
- Search for “Workiva” and select the app to open the app details page.
- Navigate to the Users and Groups tab and select Installs from the dropdown.
- Click Install app and select the install option: Everyone or Specific users or groups.
Individual user installation
- Open Teams, and select Apps.
- Choose Workiva and click Add to add the Workiva notification bot to your list of installed apps.
Disabling Workiva notifications in Teams
Users have two options to stop receiving notifications in Teams. Either uninstall the app from Teams, or disable notifications within the Workiva platform. Instructions for both methods are provided below.
Uninstalling the app from Teams (individual user)
To uninstall the Workiva app from Teams:
- Open Teams, and select Apps in the left navigation area
- Click Manage your apps (at the bottom of the Apps area) and find the Workiva app entry.
- Expand the entry by clicking the arrowhead at the left of the entry.
- Click the trash icon in the Personal app row to uninstall the app.
Disabling Teams notifications within Workiva
To disable Teams notifications in Workiva:
- Navigate to your User Profile in Workiva.
- Uncheck Enable Microsoft Teams notifications within your Preferences.
Disabling/Uninstalling Teams globally
In addition to just disabling Teams at the Org level in the Workiva Platform, there are several other methods available to uninstall Microsoft Teams for a group of users:
-
Using a PowerShell script: Microsoft provides an uninstallation script that can remove the classic Teams client from all user profiles on devices in an organization. This script can be deployed using device management software like Microsoft Intune to target a specific group of devices or users.
Refer to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-client-uninstall-script -
Group Policy: Administrators can use Group Policy to deploy a script that uninstalls Teams across multiple machines for specified users or groups.
Refer to: https://github.com/asheroto/UninstallTeams -
Device management software: Solutions like Microsoft Intune or System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) can be used to deploy uninstallation scripts or commands to a targeted group of devices.
Refer to: https://lazyadmin.nl/powershell/microsoft-teams-uninstall-reinstall-and-cleanup-guide-scripts/ - Bulk uninstallation: For larger deployments, administrators can use tools like the Uninstall Teams PowerShell script, which can be run across multiple machines to remove Teams from all locations on Windows devices.
When uninstalling Teams for a group, administrators should consider:
- Ensuring all instances of Teams are closed before running the uninstallation process.
- Removing both the Microsoft Teams application and the Teams Machine-Wide Installer if present.
- Addressing potential issues with the Teams Meeting Add-in (TMA) after uninstallation, especially for versions below 24215.1007.3082.1590.

Manage notifications
If you receive a Teams notification from Workiva, the Workiva app will automatically be added to your apps list. Otherwise you can select Add apps under the Apps section in Teams, and choose Workiva to add to your list of installed apps.
To stop receiving notifications in Teams, navigate to your User Profile in Workiva, and uncheck Enable Teams notifications within your Preferences.
