Welcome to the new year! Our most recent release to the Workiva Platform included improvements to the following products and features:
User management
File permissions are now restored when re-adding users
Previously, permissions were permanently deleted when a user was removed from a workspace. If that user was re-added later, their permissions would have to be manually re-assigned. But with this update, users who are deleted from a workspace can be re-added later with their permissions intact.
Please note that this does not apply at the organization level. If you remove a user from your entire org, their permissions will not be recoverable.
Spreadsheets
Additional formulas now available in spreadsheets
We've added the following formulas to spreadsheets:
- XLOOKUP
- XMATCH
- CELL
- QUARTILE
- PERCENTILE
- CODE
- UNICODE
- UNICHAR
Chains
Upcoming changes to GroundRunners
We've recently introduced a number of backend changes aimed at improving the performance of GroundRunners -- particularly when working with complex or long-running chains. These changes will be enabled automatically on January 23, 2023, but we've made them available early for customers who are comfortable making their own updates.
For detailed steps, check out our article on updating GroundRunners.
New roles and abilities
Note: These changes are currently available only to standalone OneCloud subscribers, but will be released to all Workiva users in the coming weeks.
We've added two new roles related to managing chains:
- Org Chains Security Admin: This allows you to manage all connections and runners across workspaces in a single admin panel.
- Chains Security Admin: This allows you to manage all permissions for environments and chains within a Chains workspace. The Chains Security Admin can give user groups a variety of permissions such as Read, Execute, Edit, Create and Admin.
Chain templates containing sub-chains can now be shared everywhere
Back in October, we removed the ability for non-parent companies to share chain templates that ran sub-chains with a Run Chain command. This was due to an inability to include the entirety of the dependent chain in the shared template.
But we're pleased to announce that chain templates now fully support sub-chains for all users in all situations. This means templates -- including those with a Run Chain command -- can be shared with users both inside and outside of your organization.
In-app help coming soon
In bringing the Chains product into alignment with the rest of Workiva, we've added digital adoption and assistance tools to Chains. In the near future, you'll see more in-app guides and accessible tips sprinkled throughout the software -- particularly when new features are released.
Updated error messaging when accessing Monitor screen
If you attempt to access the Monitor screen without the proper permission, you'll now be returned to the previous page and shown an error message. Previously, this would send you to a blank page with a generic error.
Updated error messaging when moving a command out of the start node
Previously when editing a chain, you'd receive an "out of date" error message when moving a command out of the start node. We've revised this error message.
Fixed the redirect link for "Create a Chain Template"
If no templates have been created in your workspace, the Templates screen will show a "Create a Chain Template" link in the center of the screen. This link previously led back to the Home screen, but will now launch the chain template wizard.
Updated messaging for a 2xx response with the Sage Intact Connector
When a create, delete, or update request returns a 2xx response and an error occurs while reading it, you will now receive a warning message instead of an error.
Salesforce connector now properly recognizes passwords with the "&" character
We discovered an issue where the Salesforce connector would not properly recognize passwords containing the ampersand character. This has now been resolved.
Updated authentication for the Coupa connector
In late 2022, Coupa announced they would deprecate the use of API keys for their REST API and begin transitioning to OAuth 2.0-based authentication. We've now updated the Coupa connector to align with these changes.

Documents
Insert menu changes
The Insert menu in Documents has a new look! The new design makes it easier to insert tables, images, and charts. Under More you will find Page Break, Footnote, Auto Text, and Symbol.
Some browser view sizes may still show the Insert menu which will contain the "More" button. This update will not affect any content within your current documents.
