This article is for:
- Workspace Owners
From Sustainability Program, you curate and track metric values to disclose in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) or sustainability reporting. To enable metrics to each collect multiple values, Workspace Owners can set up custom dimensions for a Program.
For example, you can create dimensions to collect multiple values based on:
- Entity locations
- Market regions
- Business units
- Demographics, such as gender or race
Create dimensions
From Sustainability Program, Workspace Owners can create the dimensions available for members who collaborate on the Program and its metrics.
Note: For optimal performance and experience, we recommend up to 250 active dimensions — with up to 1,500 active values each — for a Program, up to 6,000 values collected annually per metric.
- From Program overview, select Manage dimensions from the menu.
- Click Add dimension.
- Enter a name to identify the overall dimension, such as Business unit, Location, or Gender.
Note: You can enter up to 300 characters for a dimension name or value, and up to 20 characters for a value ID.
- Add the dimension's values:
- To add each value separately, click Add value, and enter its ID and a display name.
- To add multiple values at once, copy their IDs and names from Spreadsheet columns, then paste into Value ID.
Note: To ensure data integrity, you can't delete a value or edit its ID after you save the dimension. To delete a value before you save the dimension, select Remove from its menu.
- After you add all of the dimension's values, click Save.
- Add any additional dimensions and their values, and click Close.
Rename a dimension
Note: When you edit a dimension's name, you update it for all of the Program's metrics.
To change a dimension's name:
- From Program overview, select Manage dimensions from the menu.
- From the dimension's menu, select Update dimension.
Tip: To rename an inactive dimension, first select Inactive in the filter.
- Edit the dimension's name as necessary, and click Save.
Manage a dimension's values
From a dimension, you can add new values and manage its existing values.
Note: To ensure data integrity, you can't delete a dimension value or edit its ID. Instead, to prevent the use of a dimension value, set it as inactive.
- From Program overview, select Manage dimensions from the menu.
- From the dimension's menu, select Update dimension.
Tip: To manage values for an inactive dimension, first select Inactive in the filter.
- Manage the dimension's values as necessary:
- To add a new value, click Add value, and enter its ID and name.
Tip: To remove a value before you save the dimension, such as if you enter the wrong ID, select Remove from its menu.
- To edit a value's name, select Rename value from its menu, and enter its new name.
- To no longer use a value with new metrics, select Set as inactive from its menu.
Tip: To resume use of an inactive value, select Inactive in the filter, and then select Set as active from the value's menu.
- To add a new value, click Add value, and enter its ID and name.
- Click Save and Close.
Set a dimension as inactive or active
To prevent the use of a dimension, you can set it as inactive. You can then set an inactive dimension as active to resume its use.
Note: Inactive dimensions remain applied to historical metric values but are no longer available for new metrics.
To prevent the use of a dimension:
- From Program overview, select Manage dimensions from the menu.
- From the dimension's menu, select Set as inactive.
- Click Set as inactive and Close.
To resume use of an inactive dimension:
- From Program overview, select Manage dimensions from the menu.
- In Dimensions, select Inactive.
- From the dimension's menu, select Set as active and Close.
