XBRL Label Update
In early April 2024, the Workiva Platform will be updated to include a new German XML capability that enables Global Statutory Reporting (GSR) Customers to generate XML for statutory reporting purposes.
The new German XML capability will be released in GSR workspaces. However, as part of the release, labels that previously referenced XBRL have been updated within all workspaces that have XBRL enabled today (even those without the local taxonomy access).
Here's a summary of the label updates:
- The XBRL tab will now be labeled as XBRL/XML. Additionally, the XBRL Manager role will now be labeled as XBRL/XML Manager. These labels will remain static.
- The Show XBRL toggle label and other existing labels within a document or sheet will be dynamic. For example, before a document or sheet is profiled, the toggle will be labeled as Show XBRL/XML. After a profile is applied, it will be labeled as either Show XBRL or Show XML based on the profile.
Here’s an example for reference:
To access your existing XBRL reporting capabilities, ensure that you have the XBRL/XML Manager Role and then navigate to the XBRL/XML tab within your file. Once there, you can proceed as usual. More detailed guidance on XBRL reporting is available here.
It’s important to note that the XBRL/XML label update does not impact any existing functionality, including how your report is profiled or the roles that are assigned to you and your team members.
If you’d like to learn more about the new German XML capability, information on how to get started can be found here. As a reminder, the German XML capability will be available to GSR Customers.
We are here to help! Don't hesitate to reach out to your Account Rep, CSM or PSM with any questions about this label update.

Might make sense once a document is profiled to also change the menu title to only XBRL or XML vs both. Should be easy given this is already being done for the "Show" toggle.
