What is the appropriate balance for dividends declared on equity statement for XBRL

    Hi Caroline, sounds like all you need to do is negate the label role of the line in the xbrl outline.

    Hi Chris! Thank you for replying yes that would normally work but I should have added that we have both negative and positive values in our dividend row on the equity statement. Our APIC dividend creates a positive value. 

    Maybe in this case I have to live with one of the values being different.

    We have our APIC dividend as opposite as our equity dividends and we have both tags reversed and negated and then we verified the error on the APIC tag, since it says "in most cases".

    Hi Caroline,
    We do the same thing for some other items on our equity statements if a row has concepts with a credit balance and some of the values are negative and some are positive: we negate the negative value concepts in that row and then also negate the label.

    Also, keep in mind that on the Statements of Equity, all of your concepts with debit balances should always be negated and their label roles in XBRL outline should be negated too.
