FERC XBRL Blackline
Hello FERC users - We’ve recently enabled our XBRL Blackline for Spreadsheets. You can find additional information and step-by-step directions HERE. This feature is best utilized on XBRL revisions post roll-forward. Ideally, for those one-off updates that occur throughout the lifecycle of the schedules that you need to prove actually happened.
We recommend checking the box for both ‘Fact values’ and ‘Only show changes’ to help cut through the noise.
Once the blackline is complete, it will open in a browser tab. The top of your screen will give you a breakdown of the XBRL fact properties simply by clicking on an item in the schedule to the left. The bottom half of your screen is the blackline. You can expand that bottom portion by dragging it upward. It will list out concepts, values, status, etc.
If you need to send this review to someone, you can download the blackline from the dropdown menu in the XBRL Blacklines tab.
This creates a zip file on your computer. You can send that zip file to whomever you want. The reviewer will need to unzip the file and open the blackline-report.html file.
Another helpful feature is XBRL Revision Labels. An easy way to identify XBRL revisions, one from the other, thus running blacklines quicker.
We understand the current look and feel of this XBRL blackline may not give our FERC users exactly what they’re looking for but we are working on improving XBRL review features across the board. And we welcome feedback! Please post any ideas or comments below.
