The Workiva product team has been working on a Section Lock Edits enhancement and have reached the phase in their development plans where they are ready to start taking requests for their upcoming beta program.

    The holidays have come early as we're pleased to announce that Section Lock Edits is now generally available! 🎁

    You can now lock editing on one or more sections, without changing permissions. Use this feature to lock edits when a section is out for review or final, without having to Lock the whole document.To get started, simply:

    1. Open a file
    2. Click File > Lock Editing
    3. Select which sections you wish to lock
    4. Click Apply

    This locks editing on those sections. To unlock, simply uncheck selections. You can also right-click one or more sections to lock/unlock.

    Lock Editing on sections work exactly like when the file is locked. In addition, you can:

    • Add new sections
    • Move sections around
    • Change Style Guides
    • Change document properties

    Section Lock Edits beta will be kicking off very soon. This beta is available in Documents, Presentations, and Spreadsheets, and prevents users from editing without changing section permissions and is available to users with Owner permission to the document or section.

    • Lock Edits on completed sections
    • Lock Edits on sections in review
    • Lock Edits on sections you don't want people messing with
