Next Generation Mobile
CompletedHey Workiva Community!
My name is Behdad and I am on the Product Management Team here at Workiva. We are super excited to get started on building a new generation of mobile functionality for our users. As we start exploring new technologies and features, we would love your input on what matters most to you!
Please take a moment and provide your input in a comment below. In your comment, consider answering the following questions:
- Which parts of your workflow would you love to be able to accomplish from a mobile device?
- Which type of device would you most like to use, a tablet or smartphone?
No answer is too optimistic, we would love to hear about any and all ideas. Thanks!

Good news! At Amplify 2024, we announced the release of a new feature we believe you’ll be interested in.
We have launched a refreshed mobile app, now available on both Android and Apple iOS devices. Workiva users can preview their work with a new “For You” screen, where they can view files, star files, update permissions, read comments, and more. We’re also enabling easier and faster mobile executive reviews to match pace with your reporting cycles. In addition to the full PDF view, reviewers can use the Quick Viewer function to add comments on specific text within the document–ideal for executives who are always on the go but not always on their laptop.

Hi Behdad-
I am hoping that enhanced app function on a tablet will be what I finally need to get some of my execs in the software. At the end of the day, they want to look at it on their tablet and use their pens to write on the screen.
Editing is not something I need to do, but review and comment ability would be great. The ability to send a review or send a pdf to someone would also be great. Eventually I hope that processes will be part of our process and perhaps dashboard visibility there would be helpful. Similar to a previous poster, I envision this more for review and administrative tasks so that perhaps I can make it further than a few feet from my computer during busy time.
3Thanks for asking!
Couple things in terms of accomplishments from a mobile device:
- After you obtain the key items folks would like to see in a mobile setting, please make accessing as simple as possible.
- Please try and keep the functionality focused on the major items folks find important. For those items not available, it is assumed they do most of their work on a desktop with full functionality of the WDesk environment.
- In terms of functionality, I would mainly appreciate the ability to change permissions. This is critical when modifications to permissions, or adding permissions, are needed quickly when the key person gatekeeping permissions isn't at their desk, etc...
- Ability to blackline versions. Again, the assumption is that this information is needed quickly when one may not be at their desktop computer and critical outcomes may occur from review of changes to document versions.
- Overall, I think the focus of the mobile environment should be on addressing documents and workbooks/sheets that already exist and handling changes thereon
I use an iphone for my mobile use.
1Hi Behdad!
1. Permissioning
2. Completing certifications and certification exception approval and status overview, etc. - not necessarily certification creation, just monitoring functions.
3. Task management
4. Document Review and Approval
I use Android mobile phone when I am not using my laptop

1Mostly reiterating what others have said but these would be top of mind for me as well.
On a tablet:
- View/edit drafts and blacklines. Comments can be written using a tablet pen and "translated" to a typed out comment.
On a smartphone:
- Edit permissions.
- Send drafts for review and create/send blacklines.
- Create/review comments.
- Dashboard to monitor status of certifications.
1Hi Behdad,
Might be a silly question but what is the purpose of the app over accessing Wdesk via a web browser on your phone or tablet? Most of the reviewers on my team use a web browser on their iPad and find it works really well in raising/addressing comments and signing off reviews so I'm trying to work out what would entice them to use the app.
Thanks!
0Wanted to update this post and let folks know that as of May 31st, 2021, the Workiva Mobile Apps in both the iOS Apple Store and Google Play Store have been removed and are no longer searchable. In addition, anyone that already had the Mobile app installed are no longer able to log in.
As we work to build the next generation of the mobile app, don't hesitate to provide feedback on what you'd like to see in the next application on this post. For reference too, here's our statement of direction.
Thanks as always and let us know what questions you have in the meantime. Cheers!
0GE so excited about this!
0Quick update for ya'll here. In that spirit of continued improvement, our product managers would love it if you could stop by their Mobile booth at Amplify 2022, if you're here. As Workiva invests in a new "on the go" mobile solution that empowers our users, we are eager to hear your pain points, especially from low-touch users, such as C-level executives that don't like signing in. And no worries if you are not onsite this year. Your feedback is always welcome here.
Thanks, and stay great!
0Hi Mike, we did meet with Workiva team and our functional users reiterated that C-level executives do not want to sign in to the tool so anything that would make the experience easier would be great!
Thanks!
0Excited to hear where this might go. As others have said, the tablet experience seems to be a critical feature to bring in our execs.
0Thanks so much for you feedback here, Jill and Stephanie! I've been in touch with our mobile team, and they are excited for what's coming. We are in very early stages of beta testing with some customers. I can definitely put in a good for you both on getting early access. 😎
0We would like to see full functionality of the process feature (Certifications, Content requests, ect) via mobile.
0Is it possible to update the app restrictions so that we have the option to restrict a user from being able to share sensitive documents on their phone? Right now, disabling this option at the user level would also restrict the ability to export files to their computer, which we don't want to restrict. As such, we are currently not able to use the app at all.
