Custom Axis and Domain
AnsweredA few years ago, one of the TEC events, we were told never to customize axis and domain, as the whole hypercube will be not searchable. I was informed in recent xbrl trainings, that it's now fine to customize axis and domain. Want to check if it's fine to use customized axis and domain in the xbrl?
Found this link from the SEC, albeit, it's form 2016. So wondering if it's still applicable?
Thank you!

Hi Daisy!
In bringing this up to our XBRL experts, here's what I got in response.
In general, we recommend trying to avoid extensions whenever possible, especially if there is a standard tag that can be used, especially so with axis/domains. This helps increase consistency and comparability. However, there are some circumstances where it will be required to extend an axis/domain in order to differentiate, based on the presentation of a document.TL;DR - Essentially we say try to avoid it, but if it is needed, it is okay to extend, even if its an axis or domain.Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Best!0Please sign in to leave a comment.
