SEC XBRL Viewer
We just switched to Next Gen this year; when I look at our XBRL in the SEC viewer, footnotes are showing up as financial statements. This was something that happened when we transitioned the first quarter and unfortunately wasn't noticed. Why are they showing up as financial statements and how can I change it?

Hi Morgan!
Thanks for question. Good news, I think I know how to resolve this one. The problem is likely because the Reference Section for your footnote is setup as a Statement instead of a Disclosure. To check and edit this, follow these steps.
- Right-click on the errant footnote section in your XBRL outline and choose Edit Subsection (F2)
- Next, verify the Reference Section you have selected. Based on what you are describing, odds are its a Statement of some kind. To adjust, click the dropdown arrow to the right and then select the appropriate Disclosure section.
- When you've made your selection, choose Save changes and then rerun the XBRL generation to see where this note now falls in the SEC viewer.
Hopefully this helps resolve the issue for you. Certainly let me know if I've missed the mark or you have questions for me on the above. Thanks again and happy tagging!
0Hi Mike, We have similar issue as described above and we have also updated the DEI outline sections, but the issues are still not solved.
Notes to the financials statement are part of the financials statement- SEC viewer, but XBRL outline in document looks fine
Notes not in order
0Hi Sally!
I assume this is the same question as found here?
Either way, you should check the reference sections to make sure they are properly set to Statement and Disclosure for the financial statements and notes to the financials, respectively. There's a reference to this near the bottom of this article: https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035647892-Migrate-to-a-New-Taxonomy.Here's a quick image of this too.
Hopefully this helps some. Let me know if I've missed the mark, or you have any follow-ups for me. Thanks as always and chat soon!0Thanks Mike, this is very help and it solved the issues.
