How to link a presentation to controls
AnsweredI am trying to make flow charts using a presentation and need to link text back to control descriptions. I got one link to work by copy pasting the control to the presentation but was not able to replicate this. Is there an easier way to create these links?
Thank you

Thanks for the follow-up, Connor.
After talking with the team a bit more, I think I know what the culprit is as we've seen this one a bit. In order to link the control you have to click on the field itself vs clicking into the text. To do this, click on the label of the field and then it will outline the field in blue that are looking to link. Here's an example:
Let me know if this helps address the issue, or you have any further questions for me. Thanks much and have a great day in the meantime.
1Hi Connor,
Thanks for the question. I did some quick checking with our SOX/Controls Management team and unfortunately you can only link from the database out, and one by one in this case. Sorry I don't have any better news there. Let me know what questions you have for me, or if you need anything else. Thanks again for your contributions and have a super day!
0I am copy pasting from the database to the presentation one by one and the words show up but it takes multiple tries to get the link to paste. Is there a more efficient way to do this? It can take up to 30 'pastes' before the link will paste in the presentation.0Yes this helped thank you.
0Excellent, that's great to hear!
0Hi Mike,
This is very helpful! Follow up question, after you copy the highlighted cells, what are the next steps?
Thank you!
Esmeralda
0Hi Esmeralda!
No problem. The next steps to get this linked once highlighted would be to hit CTRL+C to copy (or ⌘+C on Mac) and then in your document in Workiva hit CTRL+V to paste (⌘+V on Mac) to create a destination usage.
Hope that helps get you to the finish line. Let me know if you have any follow-ups. Thanks, and have a great day!
0Hi Mike, I followed your advice by "click on the label of the field and then it will outline the field in blue". When I click, I don't see any blue button. Is there any permission in my role that could not do this or did I do wrong? Is there any VDO tutorial to help for more detail? I am trying to link the control to the Flowchart.
Thanks,
0Hi Daraith!
There's been some updates to that interface, which is why you might be hitting a snag there. In this case, you won't see a blue button. The field will outline in blue indicating that it is selected and you can then copy and paste it. This Help article includes a video on that.
Let me know what follow-ups you have and if you need anything else. Cheers!
