Formatting with a cell and setting a print area in Spreadsheets
CompletedHow do others work around the following differences between workbooks and spreadsheets?
A couple of examples,
In workbooks we were able to use multiple formats within one cell. For example, italicizing part of a sentence; bold a word, superscript a footnote or hard return within a cell.
It also would be great to find a workaround for selecting a specific 'print area' within each spreadsheet section for outputting in excel/pdf.
Thanks!

Hi all,
Great news! A recent release to Workiva has now made Print Area available in Spreadsheets 🎉. You can access this from the Sheet Properties panel on the right-hand side of your screen.
Thanks so much for your feedback and patience, and happy Friday!
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for your questions! Both the ability for formatting within a cell and for creating a 'print area' are under consideration by our Spreadsheets Product Team. I've shared your interest in these features with the team and I'm happy to keep this post updated with any developments going forward.
I'd also be interested in what workarounds exist out there. For example, to achieve a hard return, you can use the formula CHAR(10), which will create a return in the cell.
Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions. Have a super day in the meantime. Cheers!0Thanks Mike and also thanks for the update when new developments occur. 0Hi Cheryl!
Great news, a recent release to Wdesk included the addition of rich text features for our Spreadsheets product. You can now have multiple formatting within the same cell, including a hard return!
Wanted to let you know. Holler if you have questions and thanks as always for your contributions. Cheers!0Mike Has there been any update for creating a "print area" within Next Gen?
0Hi Brian DelDebbio!
Thanks for reaching out. I don't have much more of a new update for you regarding print area in next gen. It is on our Product Team's future roadmap, so it is planned to be released but as of yet no timeline has been set for it. I've created a request for you to follow along with, here. In the meantime, I'll keep you updated as soon as things change with this feature.
Let me know what questions you have or if you need anything else. Thanks much for your contributions and feedback and have a most excellent day. Cheers!
0Hi Mike any update on the print area functionality? That would really save me a lot of time...like NOW
0Hi Vote4Me!
Just checked to confirm, and this enhancement is planned for release later this quarter. I've got your request connected here but I'll certainly keep this post updated with any new developments.
Give me a holler if there are any questions or you need anything else. Thanks for your feedback and have a great day!
0Hey Mike -

Thanks!
Sarah
0Hi Sarah (and all followers)!
Thanks for the reminder on this one. As of yet, this feature is not yet released. double checked since we are passed Q4 2020 and can confirm that Print Area is still planned but has been reprioritized for release in Q1 2021. Apologies for the slight delay there. Thanks so much for your input. In the meantime. let me know what questions you have or if you need anything else. Cheers!
0Hi Mike! Just checking is setting print area in a Spreadsheet now a live feature?
0Hi David!
While you can show or hide a Print Area in a Spreadsheet, that as of yet is not available on PDF export, though it does remain on the roadmap to be done. We'll definitely keep you posted on any status changes there. I'll be happy to add you as a requestor for this on our end as well.
