EDGAR Next Final Rule - Key Findings & Our Plans

The SEC has posted a final update on EDGAR Next here. While its way more technical than most will want to consume, we've combed it over and have some updates for you all regarding EDGAR Next. Here's what is known so far.
Between September 30, 2024 to March 21, 2025, SEC filers may prepare for the changes by testing in and modifying their internal software systems to accord with an EDGAR Next Adopting Beta environment.
Then, on Monday, March 24, 2025, a new EDGAR Filer Management website that includes the dashboard will go live. Also at this time, existing filers may begin to enroll on the dashboard and once enrolled they may connect to the optional APIs while still being able to use the legacy EDGAR filing process. NOTE: Compliance with the remaining EDGAR Next changes will be required on Monday, September 15, 2025, when all EDGAR websites will require, among other things, Login.gov individual account credentials and dashboard authorization to make submissions on EDGAR. To reiterate: the drop-dead date for EDGAR Next is September 15, 2025.
Filers who have not enrolled by September 15, 2025 will not be able to make submissions or take other actions in EDGAR other than enroll. The legacy filing process will be available for six months, between March 24, 2025 through September 12, 2025, during which time filers may also enroll. In addition, filers will be allowed to continue to enroll on the dashboard for an additional three months after the compliance date.

The EDGAR Business Office (EBO) is hosting a live EDGAR Next kick-off webinars on Webex to demonstrate functions on the Adopting Beta and answer questions. The EBO invites filers to register for any one or more of the following live webinars:
- Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET*
- Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET
- Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET (previously scheduled for Nov. 7th)
*A recording of the webinar will be posted to the SEC's YouTube channel.
In addition, here's the SEC's EDGAR API overview (note as well that many new APIs are based on the Workiva comment letter suggestions). The EBO is also hosting four live API development support Q&A sessions for filers’ development teams working on connections to optional EDGAR APIs, to facilitate discussion and guidance regarding the API Development Toolkit. EBO invites the development teams to register for any one or more of the following open forums:
- Thursday, October 10, 2024, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. ET
- Thursday, October 17, 2024, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. ET
- Thursday, October 24, 2024, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. ET
- Thursday, October 31, 2024, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. ET

With many of our changes implemented, Workiva is well positioned for a head start on EDGAR Next. We're working diligently to keep abreast of the situation as it changes and are committed to ensuring a seamless transition for our filers. In that spirit, we will also immediately be implementing the changes when the Adopting Beta opens on Sept 30, 2024.
