Introduction to Automations
Automations are simple, easy-to-configure patterns of actions that are embedded into Workiva experiences. Automate your workflow with these quick operations that provide enhanced productivity and collaboration without the need for extensive management or oversight. Automations are designed for process collaborators working in Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations.

Create an automation
Document, spreadsheet, and presentation Owners can create automations. To create an automation, you will need the following:
Automation trigger The trigger is an event in Workiva that automatically starts the pattern of actions set up in the automation. |
Trigger filters Trigger filters define the specific conditions of your automation, such as individual sections to target in a document, or which collaborators to watch for. |
Action details The action is what happens once the trigger conditions are met. |
Manage automations
The Automations panel displays your saved automations as cards that include information such as name, status, and creation details. You can access options to Edit, Disable, and Delete from each automation’s drop-down menu. Any disabled automations will remain in the panel, but won’t run.
View automation activity
The automation activity log shows both admin and execution activities.
-
Admin activities include creating, enabling, disabling, and editing automations
- Execution activities track if an automation runs successfully, has any errors, or fails
You can filter the list by activity type and export to a CSV file. For more details, see Review automation activities.
