Importing InDesign Markup Language (IDML) files to Workiva allows you to import the full document. When you import IDML to Workiva, it'll automatically convert to XHTML. Along with importing, the Discrepancy report helps show any issues when converting IDML to XHTML in Workiva. Its purpose is to alert designers to items that are not supported.
Note: Workiva only needs IDML and the fonts being uploaded to create XHTML. When importing, it is always best to create a package that includes any additional fonts and any images.
To convert IDML to XHTML:
- 1
- At Home, click Create
- 2
- Under Import , select Convert IDML to XHTML.
- 3
- After the import is complete, you will now be able to see the XHTML file in Files.
When converting IDML to XHTML, an additional file now sits along your XHTML file with the appendage of ‘Report’ in the name. This file is called the Discrepancy Report. It gives you information about your conversion and will highlight issues if they are present. Issues reported are items detected that do not follow XHTML formatting rules. You can open the XHTML file and Discrepancy Report directly from Home to review.
You may override the XHTML file and generate XBRL to review the XHTML file from Filing Documents or iXBRL Viewer if your solution allows. To learn more on how to do so, we suggest you read Override XHTML. For more details on IDML, head to Design Reporting Guidelines and Design Reporting Quick Start Guides.
