This article covers the details of importing a file with the .docx extension into Wdesk.
Supported .docx Features
The following are retained in the document after it is imported:
Bulleted lists and numbered lists
Sections, page breaks, page orientation, and page margins
Non-nested tables, table cell alignment, fill and padding, table cell borders, table cell merging
Headers, footers, and page numbering
Table of contents, in document links, and embedded images
Import a .docx File
You can import a .docx file through the File tab in the Wdesk editor, or through Wdesk Home.
The Microsoft Word doc you are importing must have the .docx file extension. Older Word versions cannot be imported.
Begin the file import:
From Wdesk Home, click Create > Import > Word (.docx).
From the Wdesk editor, go to the File tab > Import > From DOCX.
Select the document type, project type, and table preferences.
Select any of the additional options that are appropriate for your document:
Auto-detect imported precision: Detects which value your numbers are entered in, such as thousands or millions.
Import headers and footers: Adds all headers and footers from the .docx file to your Wdesk document.
Convert images for EDGAR compliance: If selected (default), any images that are not in JPEG format are converted to GIF format for filing compliance. If not selected, all images that are not in GIF or JPEG format are converted to PNG, which is useful for documents like Risk items.
The new document opens in the Wdesk editor with the information from your .docx file. You can add this document to a project from the Project panel or from Home. Documents with images are imported as a project.
Review Document after Import
You may need to make some adjustments to the imported document:
Check for inconsistencies between the original .docx file and the imported file.
Look for formatting adjustments that didn’t carry over.
Recreate embedded tables in your document to link to your workbook or spreadsheet.
Run the Preview EDGAR and Save As PDF options on your imported document to check for issues.
