To help enable informed investment decisions, the International Sustainability Standards Board® (ISSB®) developed globally-comparable sustainability disclosure standards for the International Financial Reporting Standards® (IFRS®) Foundation.
From ESG Explorer, you can view the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (SDS):
- IFRS S1: General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information, including its basis for conclusions and illustrative examples and guidance
- IFRS S2: Climate-related Disclosures, including its basis for conclusions, illustrative examples and guidance, and industry-based guidance
When you include this content in ESG Explorer, you can:
- Search and browse the content to prepare Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures.
- Align content with ESG Program metrics to collect values for their disclosures.
- Add comment threads to discuss content and disclosures with collaborators.
Include IFRS SDS in ESG Explorer
To include the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards in ESG Explorer, select IFRS in Frameworks from the ESG Admin panel.
Note: Depending on your company's Workiva subscription, you may need to request IFRS for ESG Explorer from your Workiva Customer Success Manager (CSM).

Align IFRS SDS with ESG Program metrics
From ESG Explorer, you can align specific content of the Standards and their accompanying guidance with the ESG Program metrics that collect the related values:
- From ESG Explorer, search for or browse to the IFRS content, and click Connect to program metric .
- Select or add the ESG Program metric the content aligns with, and click Apply.

Tip: To provide images, tables, or other context not included in ESG Explorer, you can also download IFRS content as a PDF, and then upload it as a reference attachment in ESG Program.
Use IFRS SDS for Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards or Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards
To help ensure consistency and comparability, multiple countries have based their sustainability standards on the IFRS SDS, including:
- The Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS)
- The voluntary Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDS)
Given this alignment, you can use the content of the IFRS SDS to align metrics in ESG Program with their corresponding Standards of ASRS or CSDS, which are not included in ESG Explorer.
The Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) incorporate IFRS S1 and S2 into their respective Standards:
- The voluntary AASB S1: General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information
- AASB S2: Climate-related Disclosures, required for some entities based on the Corporations Act 2001
As such, the content of the ASRS tightly aligns with the IFRS SDS, with only minor modifications and some additional Australian-specific paragraphs.
Tip: The AASB provides comparisons between the ASRS and IFRS SDS at the AASB Standards Portal to help identify the differences between the two.
To align ESG Program metrics with the ASRS:
- Add the corresponding IFRS SDS content in Related ESG content.
- For paragraphs unique to the ASRS, create and apply custom tags.
Tip: In the ASRS, Australia-specific paragraphs not included in the IFRS SDS have a prefix of
Aus.
To connect a metric directly to its related ASRS content, such as reference for an assignee or auditor:
- From the AASB Standards Portal, copy a direct link to the content.
- From the metric, add the web address as a reference attachment.
The voluntary Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDS) incorporate IFRS S1 and S2 into their respective Standards:
- CSDS 1: General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information
- CSDS 2: Climate-related Disclosures
As such, the content of the CSDS tightly aligns with the IFRS SDS, with only transition relief modifications to reflect the Canadian public interest.
To align ESG Program metrics with the CSDS, add the corresponding IFRS SDS content in Related ESG content.
